Henriquez was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Henriquez was promoted from St. Paul on Sept. 18 and made three appearances in his first taste of the big leagues, and he pitched well with a 2.31 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB across 11.2 innings. Henriquez, whom the Twins acquired in March in the deal that sent catcher Mitch Garver to the Rangers, will reach the big leagues for the first time in his career. Henriquez was held back in extended spring training, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.
Henriquez, who was acquired from Texas in the Mitch Garver trade, logged 93.2 innings across High-A and Double-A last year, so there wouldn't be a workload reason to hold him back. The Twins optioned Henriquez to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Henriquez was one of six pitchers optioned to minor-league camp as the Twins made their first round of cuts. Acquired earlier this month from the Rangers in the deal that sent Mitch Garver to Texas, Henriquez will move up a level to begin his tenure with a new organization. Henriquez and Isiah Kiner-Falefa were traded from the Rangers to the Twins in exchange for catcher Mitch Garver on Saturday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Henriquez advanced to Double-A Frisco during the 2021 season and recorded a 5.04 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 69.2 innings across 16 appearances (11 starts).
