  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Sent back to minors

The Orioles optioned Mayo to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Mayo had some defensive lapses and went just 1-for-12 at the plate during his brief stint with the big club. The 23-year-old has nothing left to prove in the minors, but he will nonetheless head back to Norfolk to clear space on the roster for the return of Tyler O'Neill (neck).

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Sitting out Wednesday

Mayo is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Minnesota.

Mayo started both of the previous two games, but he's now been in the Orioles' lineup in just half of the team's contests since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. He looks like he'll have to split time at the hot corner with Emmanuel Rivera, who draws the nod Wednesday.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Officially promoted

The Orioles recalled Mayo from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Mayo will likely receive regular reps at the hot corner while Jordan Westburg and Ramon Urias are both on the injured list due to hamstring injuries. Mayo, 23, struggled upon reaching the majors last season, going just 4-for-41 with 22 strikeouts, but he's since bounced back in Triple-A by posting a .869 OPS through 127 plate appearances this year.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Headed to big leagues

The Orioles plan to recall Mayo from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

One of the top prospects in the Orioles' farm system, Mayo is now due for his third career stint with the big-league club after slashing .252/.346/.523 across 127 plate appearances in Triple-A this season. He'll provide the O's with insurance at third base with Jordan Westburg (hamstring) and Ramon Urias (hamstring) both nursing injuries.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Cut from big-league camp

The Orioles optioned Mayo to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Mayo probably wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster no matter how well he played this spring, but he didn't help himself by slashing .190/.239/.262 with a 13:2 K:BB in 46 plate appearances. The top prospect will receive everyday reps back at Norfolk while waiting for an opportunity at the big-league level.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Expected to be fine after HBP

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Mayo is expected to be fine after being lifted from Monday's Grapefruit League game versus the Red Sox after being hit on the right hand by a pitch, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The team will re-evaluate Mayo's hand Tuesday just to be safe, but it doesn't sound like he will miss much, if any, time. Mayo is likely to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Coby Mayo: Leaves game after HBP on hand

Mayo was removed from Monday's Grapefruit League game versus the Red Sox in the sixth inning after being hit on the right hand/wrist by a pitch, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Mayo was struck by a 96 mile-per-hour sinker. The Orioles will likely send him in for testing and should offer an update on Mayo's condition once the results are in.
