  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Fine after HBP to knee

Reds manager David Bell said Friedl (knee) checked out fine following his early exit Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Friedl took a pitch off his left knee in the sixth inning of Tuesday afternoon's Cactus League game against the Dodgers and promptly limped off the field, but he was walking normally soon thereafter. He should be able to return to Cactus League action before the end of the week.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Leaves game after HBP

Friedl was removed from Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers after taking a pitch off his left knee, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The sixth-inning delivery from Jake Reed nailed Friedl square on the front of his knee and he looked to be in a good amount of pain as he limped off the field. Hopefully it just proves to be a bruise. The 27-year-old is projected for regular starts in the Reds' outfield this season and could also get semi-regular turns out of the leadoff spot.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Reports to camp at full health

Friedl (hamstring) took live batting practice Monday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Friedl ended the 2022 season on the injured list with a right hamstring strain, but as anticipated, the injury isn't anything that will affect his availability for the start of spring training. After providing a serviceable .750 OPS to go along with seven stolen bases across 258 plate appearances with the Reds last season, the lefty-hitting Friedl will get the chance to compete for a strong-side platoon role in the outfield during Cactus League play.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Officially lands on IL

Friedl was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right hamstring strain. Despite the fact that Friedl is already 27, this was his rookie season. He logged a .240/.314/.436 slash line with eight home runs and seven steals in 258 plate appearances. Mike Siani and Aristides Aquino are candidates to pick up an extra start or two over the final two days of the season.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Suffers hamstring injury

Friedl (leg) has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury and will miss the last two games of the regular season, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Friedl was forced to leave Monday's game against the Cubs after suffering the injury on a slide into third base. He'll now set his sights on preparing for the 2023 campaign.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Exits with leg injury

Friedl was removed from Monday's game against the Cubs after suffering a leg injury while sliding into third base, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Friedl was struggling to put any weight on his leg after attempting to steal, and he had to be helped off the field. The nature of the injury is unknown at this time.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Sitting against lefty

Friedl is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Southpaw Jordan Montgomery is on the mound Sunday for St. Louis, so Friedl won't start the series finale. Aristides Aquino will take over in right field and bat cleanup for Cincinnati.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Absent from lineup for Game 2

Friedl isn't starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. Friedl led off during the first game of Saturday's twin bill and went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a walk and a strikeout. He'll get a breather while Aristides Aquino starts in right field and bats fifth.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: On bench vs. lefty

Friedl is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Cubs. Friedl heads to the bench with southpaw Wade Miley on the hill for Chicago. He has been red-hot lately, hitting .438 with four home runs, three strikeouts and one walk in his last 32 at-bats.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Logs big offensive effort

Friedl went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 6-2 win over the Nationals on Saturday. Friedl had the game's biggest hit, smacking a three-run homer in the sixth inning to snap a 1-1 tie. It was just his second long ball of the campaign over 40 contests with the Reds, though he did go deep eight times across 64 games with Triple-A Louisville. He isn't highly regarded for his power, but of Friedl's last six hits, four have gone for extra bases (two doubles, one triple, one homer).

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Remains on bench Wednesday

Friedl isn't starting Wednesday against Philadelphia. The Reds are facing a left-handed pitcher (Cristopher Sanchez) for a second consecutive game Wednesday, so Friedl will remain out of the lineup. Stuart Fairchild is starting in left field and batting sixth.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Sits against lefty

Friedl is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. With lefty Ranger Suarez taking the hill for Philadelphia, the lefty-hitting Friedl will take a seat for the first time since Aug. 17. Stuart Fairchild will get a look in the corner outfield in place of Friedl, who went 3-for-13 with a solo home run, a walk, a stolen base and two additional runs while starting in each of the previous four games.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Picking up steady playing time

Friedl will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Pirates. Friedl will draw his third consecutive start and his fourth in five games in left field after going 5-for-12 with a home run, two RBI and two additional runs over his prior four contests. At least against right-handed pitching, the lefty-hitting Friedl appears to have supplanted the righty-hitting Aristides Aquino as a regular in the Cincinnati outfield.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Sent packing to minors

The Reds optioned Friedl to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Friedl's demotion leaves Matt Reynolds and Max Schrock as the Reds' backup outfielders behind everyday starters Nick Senzel, Tommy Pham and Albert Almora. During his latest stint in the big leagues, Friedl appeared in nine games and went 6-for-23 with two extra-base hits, three RBI, three runs and a stolen base.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Swipes fifth bag

Friedl went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base Thursday against the Diamondbacks. Friedl drew his second consecutive start in the absence of Nick Senzel (back), and he led off on both occasions. His time in the majors could be short-lived -- Friedl was called up when Mike Moustakas hit COVID-19 injured list -- though that could depend on whether Senzel or Albert Almora (shoulder) requires their own stint on the shelf. Friedl is hitting only .197 across 85 plate appearances on the season, though he has five stolen bases without being caught and has also tallied 11 runs.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Recalled from minors

Friedl was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Friedl has bounced on and off the roster throughout the season, as this will be his fourth separate stint with the big-league squad already this year. He's done very little with his sporadic opportunities, hitting .179/.237/.254 in 20 games, though he does have four steals. He doesn't seem to have a path to regular at-bats this time around, either, as it was infielder Mike Moustakas (undisclosed) who hit the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Optioned to Triple-A

Friedl was sent back down to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Friedl returns to Louisville after being called up Wednesday, failing to appear in a game before getting sent down. The move was made in correspondence with Mike Minor being reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Following Friedl's demotion, Albert Almora and Aristides Aquino will split the duties in right field for the time being.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Back with Cincinnati

The Reds recalled Friedl from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. He'll rejoin the Reds just over a week after being optioned to Louisville following the placement of outfielder Tyler Naquin (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list. Albert Almora will fill in for Naquin in the corner outfield in Wednesday's game in Boston and will likely play regularly so long as he continues to swing a hot bat, so Friedl may be relegated to fourth- or fifth-outfielder duties while he's up with Cincinnati.
