  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Resumes activities

Gimenez (quadricep) resumed baseball activities Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of the Athletic reports.

The second baseman landed on the IL last Friday due to a right quad strain, but it seems like he might miss close to the minimum 10 days. Gimenez is slashing .195/.273/.305 through his first 36 games with the Blue Jays after being acquired from the Guardians in December.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Placed on injured list

The Blue Jays placed Gimenez on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right quadricep strain.

After exiting Wednesday's game against the Angels early, Gimenez underwent imaging Thursday that revealed a strain in his quad which will keep him out until at least May 18. Michael Stefanic will come up from Triple-A Buffalo to give the Jays some short-term infield depth, though Ernie Clement will likely see time at second base going forward with Addison Barger at third and Nathan Lukes picking up starts in the outfield.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Remaining out Thursday

Gimenez (quad) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels.

Gimenez made an early exit from Wednesday's contest due to right quad tightness, and he'll take a day off Thursday while he continues to recover. His absence will put Ernie Clement at second base and open a spot in the lineup for Nathan Lukes to start in left field while batting ninth. It was also announced that Gimenez underwent an MRI on Thursday, but the results are still unknown, per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Pulled with quad tightness

Gimenez was removed from Wednesday's game against the Angels due to right quad tightness.

The Blue Jays are labeling Gimenez's removal as precautionary, which is an encouraging sign that the infielder isn't dealing with anything too serious. If his quad continues to bother him Thursday, the Jays may give him a day off, but a trip to the injured list doesn't seem imminent.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Grabbing seat Thursday

Gimenez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Red Sox.

Gimenez is in a 4-for-51 freefall at the plate, so he will get a day off to regroup. Ernie Clement is at second base and Addison Barger is handling third base for Toronto.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Swipes eighth bag

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Houston.

Gimenez got on base in the second inning with a single to center field, and he showed off his speed when he stole second base later in the frame. It was his eighth steal of the season, which is tied with Jake Mangum (groin) for most in the American League and fourth in the majors. Gimenez is slashing .198/.282/.341 with eight walks, 14 runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI in 103 plate appearances this season.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Three hits against M's

Gimenez went 3-for-6 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 8-4 extra-innings loss to the Mariners.

The second baseman snapped an 0-for-15 skid with his first three-hit performance of the season. The slump cut into Gimenez's rate stats, but he's still offered plenty of fantasy value -- through his first 21 games as a Blue Jay he's slashing .215/.300/.380 with three homers, seven steals, eight RBI and 14 runs.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Getting first day off

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

After starting the first 11 games of the season and clubbing three early homers, Gimenez will hit the bench Tuesday while mired in a 1-for-13 slump across the past four contests. Davis Schneider will take over at second base and bat sixth in his place.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Busy on basepaths Monday

Gimenez went 0-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Monday's win over the Red Sox.

The 26-year-old infielder has been flashing surprising power in the early going this season, but speed remains an important part of his skill set. Gimenez stole exactly 30 bags in each of the prior two seasons with the Guardians, and he's 3-for-4 on steal attempts through 11 games to begin his stint as a Blue Jay.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Power surge continues Monday

Gimenez went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a stolen base, a walk and an additional two runs scored in Monday's 5-2 win over Washington.

Gimenez got the Blue Jays into the scoring column with a solo shot in the second inning Monday. The 26-year-old former All-Star has put together an impressive power display during the very early stages of the campaign, as he's now slashing .333/.455/.944 with three long balls, two doubles, five RBI, and seven runs scored through five games. Although the slugging percentage is unsustainable, the speedy Gimenez is certainly thriving as Toronto's cleanup batter so far.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Goes deep in loss to Orioles

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, walk and strikeout in a 9-5 loss to Baltimore.

After hitting just nine home runs in 2024 over 583 at-bats, the 26-year-old is already up to two homers through three games this year. Gimenez was acquired by Toronto from Cleveland in December and has batted cleanup in the first three games of 2025, so it appears he'll have more RBI potential with his new club.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Shoulders offense Thursday

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Thursday's 12-2 loss to the Orioles.

Gimenez supplied all of the offense for the Blue Jays on Opening Day, taking Orioles right-hander Zach Eflin yard for a two-run shot in the fourth inning. It was interesting to see the speedy Gimenez, who went 13-for-46 (.283) with two homers, 11 RBI and two stolen bases during spring training, bat cleanup Thursday, but he should see plenty of RBI chances if he sticks in the No. 4 spot in Toronto's lineup going forward.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Batting cleanup Thursday

Gimenez is starting at second base and batting cleanup in Thursday's opener against the Orioles.

He's an atypical cleanup hitter, but Gimenez's fantasy stock receives a boost while he's hitting behind Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero and Anthony Santander. The former Guardian slashed .252/.298/.340 with nine homers during the regular season for Cleveland in 2024.

  • Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Shows off wheels Friday

Gimenez went 1-for-2 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's Grapefruit league game against the Astros.

The second baseman dropped a deep fly to right-center field over the head of minor leaguer Quincy Hamilton in the first inning and raced around the bases for his second triple of the spring. Gimenez has gone 8-for-30 (.267) in Grapefruit League action with a 4:6 BB:K, and he's gotten a number of looks in the leadoff spot. While he isn't likely to begin the season at the top of the order, Gimenez's fantasy value would get a boost if he worked his way into that assignment later in the year.
