Montgomery did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings during a 4-3 loss to Cleveland. He struck out three. Montgomery has allowed multiple runs in each of his last five starts and sports a 6.04 ERA during that stretch. However, Sunday's outing was a step in the right direction, as he didn't allow a home run for the first time since April 29. Overall, the left-hander has been consistent this year, but his numbers are marred by a pair of poor outings. Montgomery faces no threat to his spot in the rotation and is scheduled to pitch again during the finale of a three-game weekend set in Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less

Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Serves up four runs in no-decision
Montgomery did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over four frames during a 6-5 loss to Cincinnati in 10 innings. He struck out four. Montgomery allowed two runs in the first on RBI knocks from Matt McLain and Tyler Stephenson, and after St. Louis took the lead on a three-run homer by Paul DeJong, the left-hander served up a go-ahead two-run homer to Spencer Steer in the third. After allowing just one run over his final two starts of April (12.2 innings), Montgomery has given up multiple runs in each of his first four May outings. During that stretch, he's posted a 6.64 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP with a 20:8 K:BB across 20.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Surrenders three runs in defeat
Montgomery (2-6) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven over 5.1 innings in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday. The Brewers got to Montgomery in the opening frame with a pair of doubles, though he was able to strike out the side. He settled down from there until the fifth inning when he allowed a solo home run to Joey Wiemer. Montgomery would then give up a leadoff homer to Brian Anderson in the sixth. He's now given up multiple long balls in back-to-back starts and has surrendered nine runs over his last 10.1 innings. His ERA has shot up to a 4.21 to go along with a 1.34 WHIP and 47:13 K:BB over 51.1 innings. He's currently lined up to take the mound next week on the road against the Reds.... See More ... Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Tagged for six runs in loss
Montgomery (2-5) allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings, taking the loss versus the Cubs on Wednesday. Montgomery has had some unfortunate losses this season, but this one was more of his own doing. He got through the order unscathed once, but the Cubs scored all six of their runs against him between the third and fifth innings, which included home runs by Yan Gomes and Patrick Wisdom. It's the first time in eight starts Montgomery has given up multiple homers in the same game. He's now lost five of his last six outings since opening the season with a pair of wins. The southpaw has a 4.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB through 46 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, which projects to come at home versus the Brewers next week.... See More ... Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Quality start goes to waste
Montgomery allowed two runs on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts over six innings, taking a no-decision in Friday's loss to the Tigers. Aside from a two-run home run by Javier Baez in the first inning, Montgomery had another strong outing. He left with a lead, but Jordan Hicks immediately made a mess of things in the seventh inning. This was Montgomery's fifth quality start in seven games this season, but he's often endured a lack of run support. The southpaw has a 3.29 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB through 41 innings. He's projected for a road start versus the Cubs next week.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Takes undeserved loss
Montgomery (2-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out seven. Montgomery pitched a gem, but the Cardinals couldn't get anything going on offense. The southpaw has now given up just one earned run over his last 12.2 innings and has generally been reliable this year outside of one bad start (seven runs allowed over four innings) against Arizona on April 18th. The former Yankee is tentatively slated to face the Tigers at home in his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Pitches gem despite losing
Montgomery (2-3) took the loss Monday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over six innings against the Giants. He struck out six. Montgomery had a nice rebound game after allowing seven runs across four innings last week against Arizona. The former Yankee was the victim of non-existent run support, making it a particularly tough-luck loss. The southpaw is tentatively slated to face the Dodgers on the road in his next appearance.... Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Hit hard in loss
Montgomery dropped to 2-2 in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and no walks over four innings. He struck out two in the 79-pitch outing. After three consecutive quality starts, the 30-year-old lefty turned in by far his worst outing of the season. Though he threw 52 of his 79 pitches for strikes, Montgomery was knocked around, with five of the 10 hits he allowed going for extra bases. The blowup start inflated his season ERA and WHIP to 4.84 and 1.34, respectively.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Takes loss despite quality start
Montgomery fell to 2-1 in a loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday. He completed 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Montgomery continued his strong start to the season, picking up his second straight quality start and holding the Pirates scoreless through his first five frames. Pittsburgh finally got to him for a run in the sixth, and the southpaw was lifted after allowing two straight one-out singles in the seventh. One of those hitters came around to score, and Montgomery was ultimately charged with the loss since St. Louis couldn't offer any runs in support of him. Despite the defeat, Montgomery has been a strong fantasy asset through three starts this season, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB across 18.1 frames.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Blanks Brewers for second win
Montgomery (2-0) picked up the win in Saturday's 6-0 victory over Milwaukee, allowing three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out nine. The southpaw's only spot of trouble came in the third inning, as the Brewers loaded the bases with two outs, but Montgomery got Christian Yelich to ground out and didn't allow another baserunner to get into scoring position the rest of the night. Montgomery has been outstanding to begin his first full season with the Cardinals, posting a 2.25 ERA and 12:3 K:BB through his first 12 innings, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, likely to come next week at home against the Pirates.... Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Picks up win in season debut
Montgomery (1-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over five innings in a 9-4 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out three. Montgomery gave up three runs in the top of the second inning Sunday but got plenty of help from the Cardinals' offense to cruise to the win in his season debut. The southpaw has been relatively solid over the last two seasons, posting a 3.65 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 62 starts between the Yankees and Cardinals. He tentatively lines up to make his next start Saturday in Milwaukee.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Five scoreless vs. MIA
Montgomery hurled five scoreless innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League start against the Marlins. Montgomery allowed six hits in the outing, and he finished with just one strikeout while not issuing a walk. The left-hander came into the outing with a 7.71 ERA over his first two outings in Florida, so this would easily qualify as his best Grapefruit League effort. Montgomery pitched well in 2022 with a 3.48 ERA and 158:36 K:BB over 178.1 innings with the Cardinals and Yankees, and he is expected to slot into the middle of the St. Louis rotation to begin the 2023 campaign.... Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Working on back field Thursday
Montgomery will pitch in a simulated game on a back field Thursday, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Montgomery has struggled to begin spring training, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts over seven innings. Despite the early issues, the southpaw is in no danger of falling out of the Cardinals' rotation. He's on a one-year, $10 million contract this season, and he figures to slot in behind Jack Flaherty at the top end of the rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Avoids arbitration
Montgomery agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with the Cardinals on Friday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The left-hander was acquired from the Yankees at the 2022 trade deadline and is entering his final year of arbitration eligibility, and he'll receive a nice raise for 2023 after he made $6 million last year. Montgomery had a 3.48 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 158:36 K:BB across a career-high 178.1 innings last season, and he'll be a key piece of the Cardinals' rotation in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Slide continues
Montgomery (8-6) took the loss during Saturday's 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings. Montgomery surrendered three home runs in the first two innings to fall behind 4-0 before permitting three baserunners during a two-run fourth in submitting his worst start of the season by game score. The 29-year-old was fantastic with a 5-0 record and a 1.45 ERA across his first seven starts with St. Louis but has come back to earth during his last three -- all losses -- with an 8.16 ERA in 14.1 innings. He still possesses a quality 3.50 ERA and 1.10 WHIP on the season and will look to get back on track next weekend against Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: No help in Sunday's loss
Montgomery (8-5) took the loss Sunday versus the Reds. He allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine over 5.1 innings. The Cardinals mustered only two hits and four walks, putting just three of those six baserunners in scoring position. That was insufficient help for Montgomery, who was not at his sharpest for a second straight start. This was the third time in nine starts as a Cardinal the southpaw has allowed multiple runs. He now has a 3.26 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 150:34 K:BB through 168.1 innings between the Yankees and the Cardinals this season. He'll look to put an end to this mini-slump next weekend in a tough projected road start versus the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Takes first loss for St. Louis
Montgomery (8-4) took the loss Tuesday versus the Brewers, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six. Entering this game, Montgomery had allowed one or zero runs in six of his eight starts as a Cardinal. Tuesday was not his best work, as he gave up four runs across the first two innings and then yielded a two-run home run to Andrew McCutchen in the fifth. Montgomery's ERA ticked up from 3.08 to 3.20 to go along with a 1.06 WHIP and 141:32 K:BB through 163 innings between the Cardinals and the Yankees this year. The southpaw is projected for a home start versus the Reds this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Strong in no-decision
Montgomery allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 6.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Wednesday. Montgomery was solid, though he allowed a game-tying RBI triple to Cesar Hernandez before exiting in the seventh inning. This was just the third time in seven starts as a Cardinal that Montgomery's allowed one or more runs, and it was just his second no-decision with the team. He's at a 3.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 135:31 K:BB through 158 innings this season. The southpaw is lined up for a tougher home start versus the rival Brewers next week.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Gets back on track
Montgomery (8-3) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, pitching six-plus shutout innings. He allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Montgomery surrendered five runs in his last start versus Atlanta, but that appears to just be a blip on the radar. Friday's outing wasn't dominant -- he threw just 59 of 93 pitches for strikes -- but the Cubs' poor offense wasn't able to cash in on any of the nine baserunners. The southpaw has given up only six runs in 36.2 innings as a Cardinal. He's pitched to a 3.15 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 129:29 K:BB through 151.1 innings across 27 starts between the Yankees and St. Louis. Montgomery is projected for a favorable home start versus the Nationals next week.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery: Win streak ends
Montgomery registered a no-decision during Saturday's 6-5 win against Atlanta, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings. Montgomery pitched well aside from the fourth inning, when he permitted four straight hits to lead off the frame and four of the five runs on his ledger. The big blow came on a Travis d'Arnaud three-run home run. The rough start snapped a four-game winning streak that featured a 0.35 ERA since joining St. Louis at the trade deadline. Despite four strikeouts, the 29-year-old induced 11 swinging strikes on 85 pitches and has been close to untouchable other than Saturday's fourth inning. Montgomery carries a 3.28 ERA into his next start, slated for next weekend against the Cubs.... See More ... See Less
