  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Heads to paternity list

The Pirates placed Reynolds (personal) on the paternity list Wednesday. Reynolds left the team to observe the birth of his child and must miss at least one game and no more than three while he's on the paternity list. The Pirates recalled Billy Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis to serve as a short-term replacement for Reynolds on the 26-man active roster.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Headed to paternity list

The Pirates are expected to place Reynolds on the paternity list Wednesday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Reynolds was pulled from Tuesday's contest in the second inning to be with his wife, who had gone into labor during the game. The 30-year-old outfielder will be allowed to miss up to three games while he welcomes a new addition to his family; meanwhile, Alexander Canario figures to benefit from a few additional starts in the outfield.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Stays hot in blowout win

Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a three-run triple in Monday's 10-3 win over the Marlins. It was the second triple of the year from Reynolds, who's beginning to find a groove at the plate after struggling at the plate most of the season. Across his last 21 outings, the 30-year-old outfielder is hitting .338 (26-for-77) with three homers, four doubles, 19 RBI and six runs scored. Reynolds has seven multi-hit games and six multi-RBI efforts during this stretch.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Smacks eighth homer

Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI against the Phillies on Friday. Reynolds accounted for both of Pittsburgh's first two runs with an RBI single in the first inning, followed by a solo home run two frames later for his eighth long ball of the year. While his ISO is still just .145 and well off the pace of his past seasons, Reynolds has been picking up his performance recently. Across his last 10 games, he is hitting .368 with a pair of long balls, nine RBI and three runs scored.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Three hits, two RBI in win

Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Padres. Reynolds is 10-for-17 with four extra-base hits and seven RBI across his last four games. The outfielder endured a 2-for-45 stretch of 11 games from May 3-14, but he's been held hitless just twice over his last 13 contests to provide a big turnaround in his performance. Despite that strong run, he's still at an underwhelming .237/.304/.379 slash line with seven home runs, 34 RBI, 21 runs scored, nine doubles, a triple and three stolen bases over 56 games overall.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Big performance in comeback win

Reynolds went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-6 win over the Diamondbacks. Reynolds had a fantastic game, which is something that hasn't been said often about him this season. He delivered the go-ahead hit -- a three-run homer in the eighth inning -- to complete the comeback. The outfielder has gone 13-for-36 (.361) over his last 10 games, adding four extra-base hits and 10 RBI in that span. For the season, he's at a .223/.292/.360 slash line with seven long balls, 30 RBI, 21 runs scored, eight doubles and three stolen bases through 53 contests.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Back in lineup

Reynolds (undisclosed) is batting third and playing right field for Monday's game against Arizona. Reynolds was absent from Sunday's lineup after experiencing what Pirates' general manager Ben Cherington called "a little tightness in the trunk." Despite the vague injury, Reynolds is feeling good enough to roam right field for Monday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Feeling sore Sunday

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said that Reynolds is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers after experiencing "a little tightness in the trunk" upon reporting to PNC Park, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports. Pittsburgh is seemingly viewing Reynolds as day-to-day, but if the issue ends up keeping him out of action beyond Sunday, a stint on the injured list could become a possibility. With Reynolds on the bench, Tommy Pham will pick up a start in the outfield in the series finale.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Homers in loss

Reynolds went 2-for-3 with with a two-run home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies. Reynolds saved the Pirates from a shutout with a two-run blast off Tanner Banks in the ninth inning. The homer was a much-needed boost for the 30-year-old, who entered Saturday in a 2-for-40 slump over his previous 10 games. On the season, he's slashing a disappointing .202/.269/.331 with six home runs, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored and three steals across 197 plate appearances.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Sitting Friday

Reynolds is not in the Pirates' starting lineup against the Phillies on Friday. Reynolds will get a breather Friday after going 0-for-21 with one RBI and seven strikeouts over his last five games. Alexander Canario, Matt Gorski and Tommy Pham will serve in the outfield for Pittsburgh on Friday.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Clubs fourth homer

Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a walk, a homer and two RBI during Thursday's 8-3 loss to the Cubs. The outfielder started the scoring with a solo shot in the opening frame, his fourth homer of the year, and delivered an RBI groundout in the eighth for his sixth multi-RBI effort of the season. Reynolds has gone 3-for-8 with a double and a home run in the past two games after going hitless across his previous four contests.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Returning to outfield Thursday

Reynolds (triceps) will start in right field and bat second in Thursday's game against the Nationals. Reynolds will be making his first start in the outfield since March 30, as he had been limited exclusively to designated-hitter duties over the past two and a half weeks while managing right triceps soreness. The 30-year-old was apparently able to resume a throwing program without issue in recent days, and the Pirates are now comfortable enough with his health to have him play defense again. Pittsburgh had been getting by with a committee of Andrew McCutchen, Jack Suwinski and Alexander Canario in right field, but assuming Reynolds is ready to play in the outfield on a regular basis moving forward, McCutchen will likely end up seeing the bulk of the starts at DH.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Hits in four straight

Reynolds went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Nationals. Reynolds remains limited to designated-hitter duties as he manages triceps soreness, though he has started to show some life at the plate. He has a modest four-game hitting streak, but the fantasy impact has been minimal as his only counting stats in that span came during Monday's performance.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Goes deep Tuesday

Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals. Reynolds got the Cardinals on the board with a solo home run in the fourth. The 30-year-old now has four extra-base hits and four RBI over his last four games, though he's striking out at a 31.4 percent clip early on in the season, which is much higher than his career average.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Not in Monday's lineup

Reynolds is out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Cardinals. It's the first day off this season for Reynolds, who is still not ready to play the outfield as he deals with right triceps soreness. Alexander Canario is getting the call in right field Monday while Andrew McCutchen serves as the Pirates' designated hitter.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Not yet ready to play outfield

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said prior to Sunday's 5-4 11-inning win over the Yankees that Reynolds isn't expected to begin a throwing program until later this week while he manages right triceps soreness and will remain limited to serving as a designated hitter for the time being, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Reynolds, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday, has served as the Pirates' DH for six straight games. The Pirates aren't concerned that the injury will be a long-term concern for Reynolds, and his fantasy outlook shouldn't change dramatically in the short term while he's available to fill the DH spot. Rather than Reynolds himself, his injury has had a more negative effect on the fantasy value of Andrew McCutchen, who has made just a pair of starts in right field in the Pirates' last six games. The Pirates likely aren't eager to give McCutchen regular playing time in the outfield, so he's expected to continue sharing right field with Jack Suwinski until Reynolds completes his throwing program.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Hits first homer

Reynolds went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and three strikeouts in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Yankees. Reynolds continues to be limited to designated hitter while battling triceps soreness that affects his throwing. It's not enough to keep him away from the plate, and he was able to smack his first homer of the season when he went deep off Max Fried in the third inning. Reynolds is batting just .194 with three RBI, two runs scored and one stolen base across eight contests, but he should continue to play regularly as long as his triceps issue doesn't get worse.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Battling triceps soreness

Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Reynolds has been dealing with right triceps soreness that has impacting his throwing, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. It helps explain why Reynolds has been in the designated hitter spot for three straight games and four of the last five contests, as his hitting is not affected. Reynolds has started all seven games so far and it does not sound like the triceps issue will keep out of the lineup. However, it has affected the playing time of Andrew McCutchen, who has been out of the lineup for three straight contests.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Focusing on right field

Reynolds said Tuesday that he's focusing on being a right fielder rather than potentially seeing some time at first base, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Reynolds began working out at first base in September as the Pirates kicked around the idea of using him there at least on a part-time basis. However, even after the injury to Spencer Horwitz (wrist/thumb), it does not sound like Reynolds is being considered as an option to play first base. Fantasy leaguers should not be counting on the 30-year-old gaining dual eligibility.

  • Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Staying in outfield for now

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said Tuesday that Reynolds will remain focused on playing the outfield even after the injury to first baseman Spencer Horwitz (wrist), Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Horwitz underwent right wrist/thumb surgery last week and is expected to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks. Earlier this offseason, the Pirates discussed using Reynolds some at first base, prior to their acquisition of Horwitz. While Reynolds could still eventually see some time at the position, it does not appear he will be one of the prime candidates to fill in there while Horwitz is on the mend. Jared Triolo, Billy Cook and Darick Hall loom as the in-house options to man first base while Horwitz is out.
