  • Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Returns to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Westbrook to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. The 29-year-old Westbrook went 4-for-18 with a home run while appearing in 11 games during his first-ever stint in the big leagues. He'll cede his spot on the Red Sox bench to infielder Romy Gonzalez (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Hits first big-league homer

Westbrook went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Thursday's 14-2 win over the White Sox. Westbrook didn't start the contest, but he pinch hit for Tyler O'Neill in the seventh inning. That was when Westbrook hit his first major-league homer, a solo shot off reliever Jared Shuster. Over four contests, Westbrook is 2-for-5 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. He is likely to remain in a short-side platoon role in the Boston infield until the team gets some injured players back.

  • Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Will play against lefties

Westbrook is expected to start at second base against lefties, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. The Red Sox placed a pair of infielders on the injured list Sunday -- Vaughn Grissom and Romy Gonzalez each hit the IL with hamstring injuries. That opens a path to playing time for Westbrook (against lefties) and Enmanuel Valdez (righties). Westbrook, 28, made his MLB debut Sunday as a pinch hitter -- he walked for Wilyer Abreu. After a day off Monday, Boston resumes its scheduled Tuesday against Atlanta, which is scheduled to throw left-hander Max Fried.

  • Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Receives first big-league call-up

The Red Sox selected Westbrook's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. The 28-year-old is in the big leagues for the first time in an 11-year professional career that included stops in the Diamondbacks, Giants, Brewers, Tigers and Yankees organizations before he caught on with the Red Sox on a minor-league deal over the winter. Over his 195 plate appearances with Worcester, Westbrook slashed .267/.364/.436 with five home runs and two stolen bases and made starts at five different positions (first base, second base, third base, right field and designated hitter). With Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) and Romy Gonzalez (hamstring) going on the injured list Sunday, second base likely represents Westbrook's clearest path to playing time in Boston, though Enmanuel Valdez will likely get the first opportunity to make regular starts at the keystone, at least against right-handed pitching.

  • Red Sox's Jamie Westbrook: Inks NRI deal with Boston

The Red Sox signed Westbrook to a minor-league contract Monday with an invitation to major-league spring training. Westbrook is 28 years old and has yet to appear in a big-league game, but he posted an impressive .294/.400/.496 slash line with 21 home runs over 496 plate appearances last season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Yankees. He'll function as organizational infield depth for Boston leading into the 2024 campaign.

  • Tigers' Jamie Westbrook: Traded to Detroit

The Tigers acquired Westbrook from the Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Westbrook made 89 appearances between the Double-A and Triple-A levels last year and slashed .281/.353/.456 with 12 homers, 57 runs, 53 RBI and three steals. The 26-year-old will report to Triple-A Toledo following Wednesday's trade.

  • Brewers' Jamie Westbrook: Finds new organization

Westbrook signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Monday. Westbrook didn't play in 2020 after the minor-league season was cancelled, but the 25-year-old will attempt to revive his baseball career in 2021 with a new organization. Before attending spring training in 2020 with the Giants and being released in the summer, Westbrook had played exclusively in Arizona's organization. He split time between Triple-A Reno and Double-A Jackson in 2019, slashing .281/.358/.451 across 448 at-bats.

  • Jamie Westbrook: Let go by Giants

Westbrook was released by the Giants on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. After signing with the Giants in January as a non-roster invitee, Westbrook went 4-for-12 with three runs and one RBI in Cactus League play before spring training was suspended. The 25-year-old hit 16 home runs with 77 RBI and 83 strikeouts over 128 games in the Diamondbacks' farm system last year prior to suffering a knee injury in August, but he has yet to make his major-league debut.

  • Diamondbacks' Jamie Westbrook: Holding his own at Double-A

Westbrook, 20, is slashing .294/.353/.399 with two home runs, 15 RBI and three steals in 41 games for Double-A Mobile. The toolsy Westbrook has not been overwhelmed at this level despite his young age. He has been particularly hot lately, batting a scalding .474 with two home runs and 10 RBI over his last 10 games. He's small and has questionable defensive skills, but should still be on the prospect radar right now.
