Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: On bench against lefty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers. The Tigers are sending southpaw Tarik Skubal to the hill, so Tellez and fellow left-handed hitter Luke Raley will hit the bench as the Mariners add a couple of extra right-handed bats to the lineup. Donovan Solano will step in for Tellez at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting against lefty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. The left-handed hitting Tellez will hit the bench for the second time in three days while the Athletics send another southpaw (JP Sears) to the hill. Donovan Solano will check in for Tellez at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: On bench vs. lefty
Tellez is not in the Mariners' starting lineup against the Athletics on Friday. Tellez will retreat to the dugout for the start of Friday's game as the Athletics send left-hander Jeffrey Springs to the mound. Donovan Solano will start at first base and bat in the seventh spot of the Mariners' batting order.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: Starting at first base in opener
Tellez will start at first base and bat seventh in Thursday's opener against the Athletics, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The 30-year-old had appeared in line to handled designated hitter duties, but he will play first base instead while Luke Raley occupies the DH spot. Tellez is looking for a bounce-back 2025 season after he slashed only .243/.299/.392 in 131 games last year for the Pirates.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: Added to Opening Day roster
The Mariners selected Tellez's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Mitch Haniger's release signified that the move was coming, and now it's official. Tellez won a job by collecting an .894 OPS with three home runs this spring, and he could see fairly regular playing time against right-handed pitching between designated hitter and first base.... Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: Pushing for roster spot this spring
Tellez has made a strong case for an Opening Day roster spot this spring, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Tellez, who is currently a non-roster invitee, is leaving the Mariners with a tough roster decision to make ahead of Opening Day. Through 37 Cactus League at-bats, the veteran slugger is batting .297 with three home runs, two doubles and four RBI. If Tellez makes the cut, he's expected to mix in at first base with fellow left-handed hitter Luke Raley and at designated hitter with Mitch Garver as well as Mitch Haniger (shoulder).... Mariners' Rowdy Tellez: Joins Seattle
Tellez signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Tellez had a disappointing 2024 season with the Pirates as he posted a .691 OPS across 421 plate appearances -- his second consecutive campaign with an OPS under .700. His fit on Seattle's roster is unclear given that both he and Luke Raley bat from the left side, though Tellez could also get some at-bats at designated hitter if he manages to crack the roster.... Rowdy Tellez: Becomes free agent
The Pirates released Tellez on Wednesday. Tellez is now a free agent after previously being jettisoned from the Pirates' 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has hit just .231/.295/.385 over the last two seasons and is a poor defender at first base, so he could be facing a limited market this winter.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Out again versus righty
Tellez is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Brewers. This is the fifth time over the Pirates' last 10 games versus righties that Tellez has been out of the lineup, as the club is getting a look at some younger players down the stretch. Billy Cook will handle first base Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Idle against RHP
Tellez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds. The lefty-hitting Tellez will be on the bench for the fifth time in the last 10 games despite Pittsburgh facing a right-hander in Rhett Lowder. Tellez is 2-for-25 (.080) in his last nine games.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Getting Wednesday off
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Jared Triolo will fill in as Pittsburgh's first baseman while Nick Yorke starts at third.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Held out of lineup vs. righty
Tellez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. Tellez is typically absent from the lineup against left-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Monday for the second time in the Pirates' past three matchups with righties. Connor Joe will step in at first base in place of Tellez, who may be starting to lose some job security after producing a .485 OPS thus far in September.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting down Saturday
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday versus the Royals. Tellez will take a day to recollect himself Saturday after going 0-for-14 across his last four games. His absence will allow Billy Cook to start at first base while batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Out against left-hander
Tellez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Marlins. The left-handed-hitting Tellez will take a seat as the Marlins send southpaw Jonathan Bermudez to the hill. Connor Joe will be at first base for the Pirates in the series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Goes deep Saturday
Tellez went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and two walks across both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals. Tellez didn't start in the first game of the twin bill, but he came up as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and drilled a 443-foot, two-run blast to right field. The first baseman added a walk later in that contest before going 0-for-4 with another walk in the nightcap. Even with the Game 1 homer Saturday, Tellez has had a rough start to September, going 3-for-18 with seven strikeouts over his first seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Resting against southpaw
Tellez isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington. Tellez (undisclosed) will start at first base and bat fifth in Friday's game against the Guardians. He has slashed .276/.304/.434 with a couple home runs so far in August.... See More ... See Less
