The 29-year-old utility player has started three of Toronto's first four games, but after two games at third base, Kiner-Falefa shifted to second base Sunday. He's hit eighth or ninth in all three contests, going 3-for-9, and Sunday's run has been his only counting-stat contribution so far. IKF's versatility has value in deeper fantasy formats and he'd stolen at least 14 bags in three straight seasons coming into 2024, but his overall offensive upside is limited.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider never named his starters at third base or second base, but he's been telegraphing that it would be Kiner-Falefa and Cavan Biggio at those spots versus righties and, sure enough, that's how things are set up on Opening Day. Kiner-Falefa has a slick glove but has never posted even a .700 OPS in any of his six major-league seasons, so he's certainly an atypical starting third baseman.

Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers.
The 28-year-old signed a somewhat head-scratching two-year, $15 million contract with the Blue Jays in December, but the organization views him as a useful utility player who can help plug the hole at third base until a prospect like Orelvis Martinez is ready to step up. Kiner-Falefa got the start at shortstop in Thursday's contest however, and through six Grapefruit League games he'd seen only half his action at the hot corner while also playing a second contest at short and one at second base. Wherever he's been stationed on the diamond, he's been making good contact, going 5-for-12 (.417) with a steal and a 2:1 BB:K, although all five hits have been singles.

Blue Jays' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Lands $15 million deal from Toronto
Kiner-Falefa signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
He can earn an additional $1 million in incentives. Kiner-Falefa has never even posted a .700 OPS in any of his six major-league seasons, but he nonetheless seemed to have a strong market this winter. The utility player would currently appear to be in line to see ample time at second and third base for Toronto but, of course, offers the ability to bounce around to a variety of positions.

Kiner-Falefa had been receiving fairly steady playing time at third base over the past two weeks, but he looks like he'll fade into more of a utility role moving forward after the Yankees called up infield prospect Oswald Peraza from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Peraza will draw a second straight start at third base Wednesday while Kiner-Falefa remains on the bench.

Yankees' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Increasing production
Over Kiner-Falefa's past five games, he has gone 6-for-21 (.286) with five RBI and a stolen base.
Kiner-Falefa has notched at least one hit in each of the five contests and has picked up at least one RBI in all but one of them. While the recent numbers don't make him a must-add fantasy asset, they're a vast improvement over his previous eight games, when he hit just .192 with a single RBI. Kiner-Falefa's theft Sunday was his 10th of the season, giving him double-digit steals in three straight campaigns, but his other numbers (.253/.321/.366 slash line, six homers, 34 RBI and 36 runs) keep him off the fantasy radar outside of deeper formats.

Kiner-Falefa's fifth-inning blast off Astros starter Hunter Brown was his sixth of the season and first since June 29. The utility man led off and started in right field in place of a resting Aaron Judge for the Yankees. Kiner-Falefa has now handled the leadoff role in two of the four games since Gleyber Torres was moved down to the three-hole in the Yankees' lineup. If Torres' position in the batting order holds, whomever gets regular work for the Yankees in the leadoff spot should prove to be a quality source for runs scored.
