  • Dodgers' David Peralta: To start in LF versus righties

Peralta is expected to start in left field for the Dodgers against right-handed pitchers this season in a platoon with Trayce Thompson, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Peralta has an .836 OPS versus righties and a .663 OPS against lefties in his career, with 11 of his 12 home runs last season coming off right-handed pitching. It's a role which could make him relevant in deeper leagues, especially if he winds up hitting in the top half of the Dodgers' lineup. Peralta is batting leadoff Thursday (although that's coming on a Mookie Betts off day).

  • Dodgers' David Peralta: Had back surgery in offseason

Peralta underwent surgery to address a herniated disc in his back over the winter, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Peralta missed a few games due to lower back tightness last June, but this is the first report of the herniated disc and consequent surgery. The veteran outfielder stated Monday that the discomfort caused by the injury came "out of nowhere," though it's uncertain when it first cropped up. Peralta appears to be doing fine now, and he's expected to fill a part-time platoon role in his first season with the Dodgers, giving the team an established bat against right-handed pitching.

  • Dodgers' David Peralta: Signs one-year deal with LAD

Peralta agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal with the Dodgers on Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Peralta returns to the NL West, a division he spent his first eight-plus seasons in as a member of the Diamondbacks before he was traded to the Rays at the deadline last summer. The 35-year-old is coming off a year in which he posted a .731 OPS with 12 homers and 51 RBi over 134 games. The left-handed hitter has been an effective platoon option with a career slash line of .294/.350/.486 against right-handers, and he figures to see plenty of playing time for the Dodgers in the corner outfield as well as designated hitter when southpaws aren't on the mound.

  • Rays' David Peralta: Remains on bench

Peralta remains on the bench for Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Guardians on Saturday.

The Guardians will send out another righty (Triston McKenzie) in this one, but Peralta will again find himself on the bench. Whether or not his absences are related to the hip issue that caused him to get scratched from the lineup Tuesday against Boston is unclear. Randy Arozarena will again be the left fielder.

  • Rays' David Peralta: Scratched Tuesday with hip issue

Peralta (hip) was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It seemed that Peralta timed his return perfectly with the day off Monday against a lefty and the platoon advantage Tuesday, but his hip may not have felt right as he was testing it before the game. It's also possible that with it raining in Boston, the Rays opted to play it safe and keep Peralta on the bench. Jonathan Aranda is starting in left field.

  • Rays' David Peralta: Back in action, hitting third

Peralta (hip) is starting in left field and hitting third Tuesday in Boston, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Peralta exited Sunday's game with right hip tightness and was held out Monday, but he may have been out of that lineup even if he was fully recovered, as southpaw Rich Hill was starting for the Red Sox. Now with a righty (Nathan Eovaldi) on the hill, Peralta will resume his post in left field.
