  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Moved to 60-day IL

DeSclafani (elbow) was transferred Monday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. DeSclafani landed on the IL in late July with a flexor strain in his right elbow and recently underwent platelet-rich plasma treatment. He's not expected to resume throwing until at least mid-September and seems doubtful to pitch again for the Giants in 2023.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Season likely over

DeSclafani will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right elbow and is expected to be shut down from throwing for 6-to-8 weeks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Based on the 6-to-8-week timeline, DeSclafani's season is almost certainly over, barring a deep postseason run by the Giants. After missing most of last season with an ankle injury, DeSclafani returned to go 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 19 appearances (18 starts) for the Giants in 2023. The right-hander is under contract for $12 million in 2024.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Out with flexor strain

DeSclafani was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right elbow flexor strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The right-hander was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain after undergoing an MRI and will be shut down from throwing for at least the next few weeks, per Pavlovic. DeSclafani is without a timetable for hit return, but he shouldn't be expected back until at least mid-September given the shutdown period, and there's a chance he's unable to return this season.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Appears set for bulk relief

DeSclafani appears set to work in bulk relief again Saturday against the Red Sox with Ryan Walker being named the Giants' opening pitcher, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The Giants have had some success throwing openers in front of their starters this season. It didn't work out well for DeSclafani last weekend -- he allowed four runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings against Washington -- but San Francisco will give it another try Saturday. DeSclafani has a 7.79 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 32.1 innings since the start of June.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Struggles again Sunday

DeSclafani allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings Sunday against Washington. After Scott Alexander only recorded two outs as the opener, DeSclafani came on in the first inning, allowing both inherited runners to score before surrendering four runs of his own over his subsequent four innings of work. The 33-year-old DeSclafani has failed to earn a win since May 29 -- he's pitched to a 7.79 ERA over his last 32.1 innings, going 0-4 in that span. Overall, DeSclafani is 4-8 with a 4.88 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 79:20 K:BB across 99.2 innings this season.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Set up for bulk-relief role

DeSclafani will likely operate in bulk relief Sunday versus the Nationals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Scott Alexander will be the Giants' opening pitcher, and then DeSclafani should soon follow him. The 33-year-old right-hander holds a 4.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 77:18 K:BB in 95.1 innings this season while exclusively working as a starter.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Struggles in return

DeSclafani did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on four hits over two innings in an 11-10 win over the Reds. He struck out five. DeSclafani was victimized by the home run ball in his return from a shoulder injury, as he allowed a pair of two-run shots to Jake Fraley and Will Benson in just two innings of work. On a positive note, DeSclafani did have the strikeout pitch working, with five of his six outs coming on Ks. The veteran right-hander has struggled after a solid start to the season, pitching to a 6.44 ERA over his last 12 outings. Overall, he's 4-8 with a 4.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 77:18 K:BB across 18 starts (95.1 innings) this season.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Activated ahead of start

The Giants reinstated DeSclafani (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against Cincinnati. Right shoulder fatigue sent DeSclafani to the IL in early July, and he'll now return to the Giants' rotation after a minimum stay. DeSclafani made a rehab start in rookie ball Thursday, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four batters across four innings. He carries a 4.44 ERA and 1.19 WHIP heading into his start against the slumping Reds.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Coming off IL on Tuesday

The Giants plan to activate DeSclafani (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday to make a start in Cincinnati, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. DeSclafani was shelved earlier this month after experiencing right shoulder fatigue, but he completed a rehab start Thursday without issue and will slot back into the rotation when the Giants require a fifth starter for the first time following the All-Star break. In his outing for the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate this past Thursday, DeSclafani struck out four over four innings and allowed one run on five hits and no walks.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Making rehab start Thursday

DeSclafani (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. DeSclafani is expected to require just one rehab start, setting the right-hander up to rejoin the Giants rotation next week. He has been on the shelf since early July due to right shoulder fatigue and posted a 4.44 ERA across 17 starts prior to being deactivated.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Placed on 15-day IL

DeSclafani landed on the 15-day injured list Monday with right shoulder fatigue, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. DeSclafani was lifted from Sunday's start against the Mets after throwing only 55 pitches, and this move will get the right-hander some rest going into the All-Star break. Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list to take DeSclafani's place.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Chased early by Mets

DeSclafani (4-8) took the loss Saturday as the Giants were downed 4-1 by the Mets, giving up three solo home runs in three innings. He struck out three without walking a batter. The homers were the only hits the veteran right-hander allowed and they all came in the third inning, as Francisco Alvarez, Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor took DeSclafani deep to chase him from the game after only 55 pitches (34 strikes). After a strong start to the year, he has a 6.39 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB over his last eight outings and 38 innings, serving up eight homers along the way. DeSclafani will try to turn things around in his final start before the All-Star break, which is likely to come at home next weekend against the Rockies.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Takes tough-luck loss

DeSclafani (4-7) yielded two runs on five hits over six innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against Arizona. After allowing a run in each of the first two innings, DeSclafani fired four shutout frames to end his afternoon. Assuming he doesn't take the mound again this month, he went 0-3 with a 6.65 ERA across five starts in June. DeSclafani now owns a 4.28 ERA and a 69:18 K:BB through 16 starts. His next outing is currently lined up to be a road start against the Mets.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Gives up three runs in no-decision

DeSclafani didn't factor in the decision Tuesday against the Padres after he allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out six. It certainly wasn't a bad start from DeSclafani, though it's still the fifth time in his past six outings he's given up at least three earned runs. The right-hander has a 4.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 66:18 K:BB across 84.1 innings this year, and he tentatively projects to next take the mound this weekend versus Arizona.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Quality start in loss

DeSclafani (4-6) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two over six-plus innings, taking the loss versus the Cubs on Friday. DeSclafani got through six scoreless innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Ryan Walker then allowed two inherited runners to score, which was enough to give DeSclafani the loss despite his quality start. This was just the second time he's gone at least six innings over his last six appearances. The right-hander has a 3.89 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB through 76.1 innings over 13 starts this season. DeSclafani is lined up for a road start in St. Louis next week.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Turns in dud Sunday

DeSclafani (4-5) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out two over three innings Sunday in a loss to Baltimore. All of the damage came in the third inning. DeSclafani has allowed at least five runs in three of his last six starts, a puzzling stretch of struggles for the veteran right-hander after he started the year well. He's also walked multiple batters in three of his last four starts. He's at a decent 3.97 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 51:12 K:BB through 70.1 innings over 12 outings this season. DeSclafani is projected to make his next start at home versus the Cubs.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Picks up fourth win

DeSclafani (4-4) yielded three runs on eight hits over seven innings Monday, striking out two and earning a win over Pittsburgh. DeSclafani gave up just one run through six frames before the Pirates put two on the board in the seventh. He's given up three or more runs in four of his last five outings, raising his season ERA to 3.48. DeSclafani has registered a 5.22 ERA during that five-game span after posting a 2.13 ERA through his first six outings. He'll carry a 49:9 K:BB into his next outing, which is projected to be at home against the Orioles.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Struggles versus Minnesota

DeSclafani (3-4) took the loss Wednesday, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over five innings during a 7-1 loss to the Twins. He struck out six. DeSclafani surrendered a leadoff homer to Edouard Julien in the bottom of the first, and things didn't get much better for the right-hander as the game progressed. He allowed at least one run in each of the first four innings but was charged with only four earned runs thanks to a trio of errors in the third. Despite allowing a season-high seven runs, DeSclafani was able to finish at least five innings and record six-plus strikeouts for a second consecutive game and the fourth time this season. He'll look to get back on track next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for the opener of a three-game set versus Pittsburgh.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Fans six in no-decision

DeSclafani did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against Miami. He struck out six. DeSclafani continues his hot start, as he's now tied for ninth in the league with a 0.99 WHIP. The former Red also sports a 5.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which would be a career-high if he stays at that pace throughout the season. The right-hander is tentatively slated to face the Twins on the road in his next appearance.

  • Giants' Anthony DeSclafani: Cleared for series opener

DeSclafani (toe) is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Marlins in San Francisco, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The Giants' decision to move Sean Manaea to the bullpen earlier in the week supported the notion that the right toe issue that bothered DeSclafani during his most recent outing last Saturday in Arizona wouldn't be anything that forced him to miss a turn through the rotation. Through eight outings this season, DeSclafani has churned out a 3.06 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 35:5 K:BB across 50 innings.
