Milwaukee signed Zastryzny to a minor-league contract Tuesday with an invitation to major-league spring training, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Zastryzny posted a rough 4.79 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 15:13 K:BB over 20.2 big-league innings with the Pirates in 2023 and also had an underwhelming 4.41 ERA in 15 appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 31-year-old left-hander will operate as organizational relief depth for the Brewers in 2024.... See More ... See Less

Rob Zastryzny: Elects free agency
Zastryzny elected to become a free agent Friday after passing through waivers unclaimed. Zastryzny was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Monday, having registered a 4.79 ERA and 15:13 K:BB across major-league innings. The lefty reliever also had a 4.41 ERA in 16.1 innings with the club's Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Loses 40-man roster spot
Zastryzny was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Monday. The move clears a spot on the 40-man and 26-man rosters for right-hander Hunter Stratton. Zastryzny holds a 4.79 ERA and 15:13 K:BB over 20.2 relief innings for Pittsburgh this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Serving as opener Thursday
Zastryzny will serve as the Pirates' opening pitcher Thursday versus the Cubs. This will be Zastryzny's first major-league start since 2016, though he'll probably only work an inning or two before giving way to bulk pitcher Andre Jackson. Zastryzny, 31, has allowed 13 runs (10 earned) through 17 major-league frames in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Outrighted to Indy
The Pirates outrighted Zastryzny to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Zastryzny was designated for assignment immediately after being activated from the injured list Friday, and he'll officially remain in the Pirates' farm system after clearing waivers. The 31-year-old reliever holds a 5.57 ERA in the majors since 2022, struggled during his rehab assignment with Indianapolis and no longer has a spot on the 40-man roster, so it's unlikely Zastryzny sees the majors again this season.... Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Activated from IL, DFA'd
Pittsburgh activated Zastryzny (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Friday and designated him for assignment. Zastryzny has recovered from left forearm inflammation that sent him to the injured list in mid-June, but the Pirates don't have a spot for him in their bullpen. The 31-year-old left-hander had registered a 5.29 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 13:13 K:BB in 17 innings of relief prior to the IL stint.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Set for rehab assignment
Zastryzny (forearm) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Indianapolis, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Zastryzny could return to the Pirates' bullpen by early next week if all goes well in an outing or two on the farm. He landed on the injured list June 16 due to a bout of left forearm inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Placed on 15-day IL
Zastryzny was placed on the 15-day injured list with left forearm inflammation Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Zastryzny will be out of commision for at least 15 days, so the Pirates selected the contract of Carmen Mlodzinski from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace him in the big-league bullpen Friday. Considering the injury is to Zastryzny's throwing arm, Pittsburgh will likely be cautious with his recovery.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Activated from IL
Zastryzny (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list Friday. Zastryzny has been out since the middle of April while nursing ulnar neuritis in his left elbow, but he'll be back with the big-league club Friday. The left-hander tossed a scoreless inning with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out a batter. Over seven appearances with the Pirates in 2023, Zastryzny has struggled to a 7.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP with six punchouts over 5.2 innings. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, Miguel Andujar was designated for assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Throws live BP on Tuesday
Zastryzny (elbow) threw a live bullpen Tuesday, and he'll throw another later this week ahead of a potential rehab assignment next week, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. Zastryzny has been on the injured list with left ulnar neuritis since the middle of April, and it appears the southpaw has made quicker progress than anticipated. He'll likely need a week or so of rehab appearances. If all goes well, Zastryzny has a chance to pitch in the middle of the Pittsburgh bullpen right around the start of June.... See More ... Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Shut down 7-10 weeks
Zastryzny (elbow) will be shut down for 7-10 weeks after being diagnosed with left ulnar neuritis, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. That would figure to rule him out until at least July. Zastryzny likely will be moved to the 60-day injured list eventually.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Makes bullpen for PIT
Zastryzny had his contract selected by the Pirates on Thursday. Zastryzny claimed the final spot in Pittsburgh's bullpen after tallying 10 strikeouts and yielding zero earned runs across 7.1 innings this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 31-year-old southpaw tends to struggle against right-handed hitters, but he's held lefties to a .174/.321/.239 slash line over parts of four major-league seasons.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Appears to make Opening Day roster
Zastryzny appears to have made the Opening Day roster for the Pirates, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. Zastryzny signed a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training back in December. The left-hander earned one of the final spots in the bullpen by throwing 7.1 scoreless innings in the Grapefruit League with a 10:1 K:BB. The 31-year-old has made only 24 appearances in the majors over four-plus seasons, but he'll have a chance to stick in the Pirates bullpen if he pitches well in the early part of 2023.... Angels' Rob Zastryzny: Recalled from Triple-A
Zastryzny was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. The 30-year-old southpaw was claimed off waivers from the Mets in late August. Zastryzny has a career 4.54 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 35.2 innings across 19 MLB appearances. He should work in low-leverage relief spots for the Angels.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Rob Zastryzny: Finds home in new organization
The Angels claimed Zastryzny off waivers Thursday from the Mets and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. First baseman Jared Walsh (thoracic outlet syndrome) was transferred to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Zastryzny, whom the Mets designated for assignment earlier in the week. Before making his lone big-league appearance of the season last weekend, the 30-year-old lefty had spent the entire 2022 campaign at Triple-A Syracuse, where he accrued a 3.61 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 59:19 K:BB across 47.1 innings.... Mets' Rob Zastryzny: Removed from 40-man roster
Zastryzny was designated for assignment Monday. Zastryzny was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, and the Mets decided to remove him from the 40-man roster one day later. The veteran could remain with the Mets if he clears waivers, but he could also elect to pursue other opportunities.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Rob Zastryzny: Optioned to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Zastryzny to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Zastryzny's contract was selected from Triple-A ahead of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Phillies. He appeared out of the bullpen in the 4-1 loss in the nightcap, allowing an earned run over one inning in his Mets debut. Though he'll retain a spot on the 40-man roster for now, Zastryzny was sent back to the minors to clear a spot in the bullpen for Nate Fisher, whose contract was selected from Triple-A ahead of Sunday's series finale in Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Rob Zastryzny: Moves to minor-league camp
The Mets reassigned Zastryzny to minor-league camp Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. The 30-year-old lefty last appeared in the majors with the Cubs in 2018, when he gave up three earned runs over 5.2 innings. He's expected to serve as organizational relief depth for the Mets at Triple-A Syracuse throughout the upcoming season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Rob Zastryzny: Joins Marlins
Zastryzny's contract with the independent Long Island Ducks was selected by the Marlins on Tuesday. Zastryzny had been under contract with the Atlantic League club but is now back in affiliated baseball. The 29-year-old owns a respectable 4.41 ERA in 34.2 innings at the major-league level, though the last of those innings came back in 2018.... See More ... See Less -
Rob Zastryzny: Released from alternate camp
Zastryzny was released from the Orioles' alternate training site Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Zastryzny inked a minor-league deal with the Orioles during the offseason and spent the season at the alternate training site, but he was unable to earn a spot on the major-league roster. The 28-year-old posted a 6.49 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 94.1 innings during 20 appearances (16 starts) at the Triple-A level in 2019. Mishael Deson was added to the 60-man roster in a corresponding move after he was acquired from the Rockies.... See More ... See Less
