Garrett joined the Giants on a minor-league deal as spring training began and was expected to make the bullpen. However, he struggled throughout Cactus League action, allowing nine earned runs across 6.1 innings while maintaining just a 3:7 K:BB. Garrett pitched effectively with the Royals in 2023, so he may get a shot with another team.

Garrett signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Murray says Garrett will receive a $1.35 million salary if he's in the big leagues. The left-handed reliever holds a 5.06 ERA with 81 walks over 117.1 innings since the beginning of the 2021 season. He also has 138 strikeouts across that span, though, and is still just 31, so he seems worthy of a dice roll on a non-guaranteed deal.
Garrett was granted his release from the Guardians on Thursday.
Garrett signed a minor-league deal with Cleveland in late July and will now once again enter the open market. The 31-year-old lefty surrendered three runs over 4.2 innings with Triple-A Columbus and should be able to secure another minor-league deal elsewhere.

Garrett will surrender his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (head), who was activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday in Cleveland. Though Garrett posted a respectable 3.33 ERA over his 24.1 innings out of the Kansas City bullpen this season, most of his other ratios (1.73 WHIP, career-worst 7.1 K-BB%, 85.2 percent strand rate) suggested he was due for a correction in terms of run prevention. Garrett (0-1) took the loss Thursday versus the Guardians, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out one in one-third of an inning.
He gave up solo home runs to Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor on consecutive pitches and ran into more trouble after that, before Collin Snider also allowed one of the runners he inherited from Garrett to score. The southpaw had pitched three consecutive scoreless innings since coming back from a month-long absence with an elbow injury. Garrett had a hideous 6.4 BB/9 last season, so seeing him display more control, even in Cactus League play, is encouraging. He's only a couple of years removed from being a potential closer with the Reds, but his 4.96 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 45.1 innings last year meant he mainly worked as a middle reliever. With Scott Barlow and Aroldis Chapman on the roster, Garrett's chances of closing early in the year are slim, but strong pitching could earn him ninth-inning looks as the season progresses.
