Duvall (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports. Duvall will face competition for the first time since suffering a distal radius fracture in his left wrist April 10. The outfielder is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list June 9. Red Sox manager Alex Cora did dismiss Duvall coming back to Boston as a first baseman, saying it was "not even a thought, but there's a good chance he's seeing significant playing time in the Boston outfield by the middle of June.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Hitting off tee and soft toss
Duvall (wrist) has resumed hitting off a tee and participating in soft toss, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Abraham suggests that Duvall is right around three weeks away from a return, which just about lines up with the outfielder's stated goal of returning to the lineup June 9. Duvall got off to a red-hot start with Boston before fracturing his left wrist making a diving attempt for a catch April 10. Once healthy, he should see regular playing time for the Red Sox, although the development of Jarren Duran might see him Duvall not playing in center field as frequently as he was.... See More ... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Aiming for June 9 return
Duvall (wrist) said Wednesday that he's aiming to return from the injured list when first eligible June 9, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. It's not clear whether the Red Sox have the same date circled for Duvall, but it does seem like he might have a shot. Duvall went through offensive and defensive drills with the team at Fenway Park on Wednesday and is working on rebuilding strength in his fractured left wrist. He will need multiple rehab games before returning and it's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Has cast removed
Duvall (wrist) recently had his cast removed and has begun tracking pitches, but he hasn't participated in baseball activities yet, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Duvall has been on the injured list since April 10 after he fractured his wrist while making a diving attempt for a catch. The outfielder is on the 60-day injured list but has a chance to return to the Boston outfield by the middle of June.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Shifts to 60-day IL
Duvall (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. This move officially rules out Duvall until at least June 9. He hit .455 with four home runs in eight games before suffering a fractured left wrist that will not require surgery. Jarren Duran has capitalized on Duvall's absence with a 1.061 OPS in 19 games.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Won't undergo surgery
Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced after Monday's loss to the Rays that Duvall will not undergo surgery on his left wrist, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Duvall is expected to miss significant time after fracturing his left wrist during Sunday's victory over the Tigers, but the fracture won't require an operation. He's expected to miss multiple weeks while recovering from the fracture, and it's a big loss for the offense considering his red-hot start. Raimel Tapia, Enrique Hernandez and Rob Refsnyder should see the bulk of playing time in center while Duvall recovers.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Out with fractured wrist
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Duvall, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, has been diagnosed with a distal radius fracture of his left wrist and is without a timeline for a return, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. The injury is a devastating blow for the Red Sox and Duvall, who was off to a screaming start with 10 extra-base hits, 14 RBI and 11 runs through his first 33 plate appearances of the season before fracturing the wrist while diving at a ball in the outfield in Sunday's win over the Tigers. The diagnosis is especially troubling for Duvall given that he had the same wrist surgically repaired last July. Cora said that no decision has been made whether Duvall will require surgery this time around, but the 34-year-old is likely headed for a multi-week or even a multi-month absence even if he's able to treat the injury through rest and rehab. Raimel Tapia and Rob Refsnyder should see more opportunities to play in the outfield while Duvall is on the mend.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Sent to IL
The Red Sox placed Duvall (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. While the Red Sox still haven't provided an updated diagnosis on Duvall after he exited Sunday's win over the Tigers with an apparent left wrist injury, the 34-year-old slugger didn't join the team in Tampa Bay and will be on the shelf for at least the next week and a half. According to Cotillo, Duvall is still undergoing further testing on his wrist back in Boston, so an updated timeline for the outfielder's return to the lineup may not arrive until later Monday or Tuesday. Rob Refsnyder and Raimel Tapia will likely share time in center field while Duvall is on the mend, with Tapia presumably being the preferred option of the two due to his left-handedness.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Not starting Monday, could go on IL
Duvall (wrist) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. The Red Sox have yet to provide a formal update on Duvall, who was scheduled to undergo X-rays after exiting Sunday's win over the Tigers with an apparent injury to his surgically repaired left wrist. As Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican notes, Bobby Dalbec joined the Red Sox's taxi squad and could be formally called up from Triple-A Worcester ahead of Monday's game, perhaps hinting that Duvall could be a candidate to go on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Given that Duvall is already out of the lineup Monday and is uncertain to play in any of Boston's remaining six games this week, fantasy managers in weekly leagues are probably best off stashing him on their bench if no resolution on his status arrives prior to the 6:40 p.m. ET first pitch.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Leaves with apparent injury
Duvall left Sunday's game against the Tigers with an apparent left wrist injury while attempting to make a diving catch in the top of the ninth inning, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. He went 1-for-4 with a strikeout before leaving. Duvall made a sprawling attempt to make a catch in center field and appeared to hurt the same wrist which he had surgically repaired in 2022. The Red Sox should have an update on his status shortly after the game finishes. Raimel Tapia has taken Duvall's place in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Homers, doubles twice in blowout
Duvall went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a two-run home run and three runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Tigers. What a start to the season it's been for Duvall. The veteran outfielder swatted his two-run shot off Garrett Hill in the fourth inning, and it's already the fourth time the 34-year-old has gone deep over Red Sox's first eight games of the season. The two doubles gave him five on the campaign, and he's already up to 10 extra-base hits in just 29 at-bats. A slowdown is coming for Duvall because keeping this up isn't sustainable, but fantasy players should be well aware that he's capable of sustaining hot streaks when everything is clicking.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Continues to mash
Duvall went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 6-3 win over Detroit. After mashing at Fenway Park to start the season, the outfielder continues to rake on the road, and Duvall's sixth-inning blast turned a potential loss into a win. He has hit safely in five of six games with three doubles, one triple, three home runs and 12 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Takes seat Wednesday
Duvall is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. After seeing his four-game hit streak to open the season come to an end with an 0-for-4 performance in Tuesday's 4-1 loss, Duvall will get a breather as the Red Sox and Pirates wrap up their series with a day game. Raimel Tapia will step into the lineup in center field as a replacement for Duvall, who has been an early fantasy standout with a .476 average, two home runs, nine RBI and seven runs through five games.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Possible waiver wire pickups
Fenway Park seemed like it would be a perfect fit for Adam Duvall's swing, which has tended to send towering flies to his pull side. One series in, the results couldn't be more promising. He went 4 for 5 Saturday and 3 for 5 Sunday, with extra-base hits galore. Two years ago, Duvall hit 38 home runs between Miami and Atlanta, but the humidified baseballs in the cold weather early last year really seemed to dampen his production. There were low temperatures in Boston this weekend, but it didn't seem to matter. You shouldn't count on him to be of much help in batting average, but Duvall could be a nice source of power.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Homers twice with triple in victory
Duvall went 4-for-5 with two home runs, including a walkoff blast, a triple, five RBI and three runs scored in a 9-8 win over the Orioles on Saturday. Duvall gave the Red Sox the comeback victory with a two-run homer off Felix Bautista with two outs in the ninth. He also scored three runs and added a single in a sensational effort for the veteran outfielder. His long balls Saturday were the first two homers of the season for Duvall, and he's already driven in six runs over two games.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Launches first spring HR
Duvall went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Sunday's spring game against the Yankees. Duvall had been hitless over his first six Grapefruit League games (14 plate appearances) before going on a three-game hit streak that included his first spring home run and extra-base hit. A corner outfielder for most of his career, the 34-year-old Duvall will be tasked to play a majority of innings in center field, a position normally reserved for younger legs. He began a transition to center field in 2021 and played a career-high 382 innings there last season. Duvall's coming off wrist surgery and a down year, so when you add in playing one of the diamond's more challenging positions, he's a risky bet in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Good to go for spring
Duvall (wrist) said Tuesday at his introductory press conference with the Red Sox that he'll be "full go" for spring training, Gabrielle Star of the Boston Herald reports. Duvall, who joined the Red Sox on a one-year, $7 million deal, didn't see any action for Atlanta after July 23 of last year due to a left wrist injury that ultimately required season-ending surgery. Fortunately for Duvall, the surgery was to his non-dominant wrist, which offers hope that he might bounce back in the power department after he saw a 75-point drop in his isolated slugging from 2021 before opting for the season-ending surgery. The Red Sox are planning to install Duvall as their primary center fielder in 2023, and given that the 34-year-old has spent most of his career as a corner outfielder, showing up to spring training at full health should give him ample time to adapt well to the position change.... Red Sox's Adam Duvall: Gets one-year deal from BoSox
Duvall (wrist) agreed Wednesday with the Red Sox on a one-year, $7 million contract that includes up to $3 million in playing time-based incentives, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. According to Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican, the Red Sox envision Duvall settling in as their everyday center fielder, even though 90 percent of the 34-year-old's career innings in the outfield have come at a corner spot. Duvall graded out adequately as a defender in the innings he played in center for Atlanta in 2022, but he saw his isolated power take a major dip following a 38-homer 2021 campaign before he underwent season-ending surgery in late July to address a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. Duvall should be at close to full health for spring training, and the Red Sox are hoping that he can rediscover his power stroke while essentially stepping into the lineup as a replacement for Trevor Story. Enrique Hernandez, who had regularly played in center field in 2022, is expected to play regularly at shortstop while Story is likely sidelined for most of the first half of the season.... Braves' Adam Duvall: Shifted to 60-day IL
Duvall (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Duvall was moved to the 60-day IL in order to open a roster spot for Vaughn Grissom, who had his contract selected Wednesday. Duvall remains out for the remainder of the season while recovering from a surgery on his left wrist.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Adam Duvall: Requires season-ending surgery
Duvall, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, will undergo surgery on his left wrist and miss the rest of the season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Duvall exited Saturday's contest with left wrist discomfort, but he's since been diagnosed with a torn tendon sheath and will be out for the rest of 2022. The 33-year-old will finish the campaign with a .213/.276/.401 slash line, 12 home runs, and 36 RBI in 86 games.... See More ... See Less
