Indians' Stephen Fife: Minor-league deal with Indians
Fife signed a minor-league contract with the Indians on Wednesday which includes an invitation to spring training, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Fife finished the 2017 season pitching for Seibu in the Japanese NPB league after being released by the Marlins in June. He struggled to a 6.86 ERA and 2.14 WHIP across five starts (21 innings) in Japan, though he posted a more respectable 3.97 ERA and 1.43 WHIP across 12 starts (65.2 innings) with Triple-A New Orleans. The 31-year-old will likely serve as organizational pitching depth for the Indians in 2018.

Stephen Fife: Released by Marlins
Fife has been released by the Marlins and will sign a contract with Seibu in the Japanese NPB league, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Fife hasn't pitched in the majors since a brief stint with the Dodgers in 2014 and appears to have other aspirations after signing a minor-league contract with Miami this offseason. The 30-year-old has posted a 3.97 ERA over 12 starts with Triple-A New Orleans this year, but has racked up a noteworthy 52:18 K:BB.

Marlins' Stephen Fife: Agrees to minor league deal with Marlins
Fife signed a minor league contract with the Marlins on Tuesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
The 30-year-old missed the entirety of the 2015 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he logged seven starts at the Triple-A level last season and does have 16 major league starts to his credit. However, his career 4.50 FIP and 6.9 K/9 at the major league level seems to point toward an assignment to Triple-A after spring training, where he'll likely act as organizational starting pitching depth.

Cubs' Stephen Fife: Activated from disabled list
Fife (side strain) has been removed from the DL and will start Monday's game against Triple-A El Paso, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports.
Fife will start his first game on Monday night since being placed on the DL on April 17. Fife is 0-1 after two starts this season and has a 4.91 ERA. However, most of that damage came from his first start of the season, during which he gave up four runs in three innings.

That's three two-inning stints in a row for Fife, who missed all of last season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. While he hasn't set the world on fire, the numbers are pretty good from a pitcher with so much rust. He'll likely spend the year with Triple-A Iowa.
