  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Five solid innings in ninth win

Gray (9-3) earned the win Tuesday against the Nationals, giving up two runs on five hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out six. Gray was curiously lifted after tossing just 70 pitches in a solid performance. It's worth noting Tuesday's first pitch was delayed by about two hours due to rain, which might have altered St. Louis' plans in terms of Gray's workload. The Cardinals have been cautious with the veteran right-hander all year long, as Gray has hit the 90-pitch threshold only six times out of his 18 starts. That hasn't prevented him from delivering a steady 3.51 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 113:19 K:BB across 105 frames, though. His next appearance is set for this weekend at home versus an underperforming Atlanta team that has a .670 OPS since the start of June.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Yields four runs in loss

Gray (8-3) took the loss against the Pirates on Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six across 6.1 innings. Though he gave up a run in the second, Gray was dominant through his first six frames, at one point retiring 14 straight batters. However, things fell apart for the Cardinals' ace in the seventh, when he allowed three of the four hitters he faced on base and was tagged for three more runs. He now sits at a 3.51 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 100 innings this season, and his 107 strikeouts is tied with Nick Pivetta for 13th most in the National League. Gray is projected to start against the Nationals at home next week, which may be his final turn in the rotation before the All-Star break.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Fans 11 in one-hitter

Gray (8-2) picked up the win in Friday's 5-0 victory over the Guardians, allowing just one hit over nine scoreless innings. He struck out 11 without walking a batter. A Nolan Jones single in the fifth inning was the only thing standing between Gray and a perfect game, as he fired 66 of 89 pitches for strikes in the fifth shutout of his career, and his first since 2015. The veteran right-hander also set a new season high with the 11 strikeouts, and he's reached double digits three times in his last seven starts, a stretch in which he's delivered a 2.06 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 50:5 K:BB over 43.2 innings. Gray will look to keep dealing in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Pittsburgh.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Goes five innings in no-decision

Gray did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings against Cincinnati. He struck out five. The right-hander worked around traffic Saturday, limiting the damage to a single run on a Gavin Lux double play in the third inning. While Gray wasn't dominant, he showed marked improvement from his previous outing June 12, when he was tagged for six runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.1 innings against the Brewers. Overall, the veteran has put together a solid 2025 campaign, logging a 3.72 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 84.2 innings through 15 starts.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Not starting Thursday

Gray won't pitch in Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox and instead lines up to start this weekend versus the Reds, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The veteran right-hander was presumed to start in the twin bill after his scheduled start Wednesday in Chicago was rained out, but St. Louis will instead turn to Erick Fedde and Michael McGreevy for the doubleheader. Gray surrendered six runs over 4.1 innings against the Brewers in his last start, but he had a 1.07 ERA and 30:2 K:BB in 25.1 innings across his four prior outings.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: White Sox-Cardinals postponed

Gray and the Cardinals will not play against the White Sox on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Chicago, Jack Ankony of SI.com reports. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday, with Gray likely to take the mound for one of those contests. The veteran right-hander recorded four consecutive quality starts before yielding six runs across 4.1 innings in a loss to the Brewers his last time out.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Roughed up by Brewers

Gray (7-2) took the loss Thursday against the Brewers after giving up six runs on eight hits and one walk in 4.1 innings. He struck out four. Gray allowed his second-most runs of the season in what was tied for his second-shortest outing of the year. The veteran right-hander did at least exhibit his usual control, walking one or fewer in his seventh straight start, but he fanned fewer than five for the first time in his past five outings. Gray is still in possession of a healthy 3.84 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 85:15 K:BB over 79.2 innings, and he'll have a prime opportunity to right the ship against the lowly White Sox in his next scheduled appearance.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Blanks defending champs

Gray (7-1) earned the win against the Dodgers on Friday, allowing eight hits while striking out five across 6.1 scoreless frames. He did not issue a walk. Gray yielded at least two baserunners in three of the seven innings he pitched, but he maneuvered out of trouble without allowing a run. He generated 16 whiffs and 19 first-pitch strikes on 90 pitches (63 strikes) while inducing seven grounders. Gray has not given up a run over his last two starts and sports a 3.35 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 75.1 innings this season, and his 81 strikeouts rank ninth in the National League. He's lined up to face the Brewers on the road next week.

The 35-year-old surrendered seven runs over 3.2 innings against the Phillies on May 14 but has since rebounded with three quality starts, posting a 1.42 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 19 innings. On the season, the right-hander is sporting a 3.65 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through 69 innings.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Turns in quality start

Gray did not factor in the decision during Sunday's win over Arizona. He allowed three runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out five. Gray coughed up a pair of runs in the first inning but settled in for the most part after that. He kept the Diamondbacks in check until Pavin Smith drove in Eugenio Suarez in the sixth. Gray has produced quality starts in three of his last four outings and has six on the year. He now owns a 4.06 ERA with a 66:13 K:BB through 62 frames. Gray has not been taken deep in either of his last two outings after coughing up three long balls in Philadelphia on May 14. His next matchup is projected to be on the road against the Rangers.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Tames Tigers with 10 punchouts

Gray (5-1) earned the win over Detroit on Monday, striking out 10 batters while allowing three hits and one walk over six scoreless innings. Gray was dominant in the victory, racking up 13 whiffs and notching a season high in strikeouts. It was the third time this season that the right-hander has recorded a scoreless quality start, though Gray has also had some clunkers, surrendering four-plus earned runs three times -- including in his previous start, when he yielded seven runs over 3.2 frames against Philadelphia. Collectively, Gray has pitched to a 4.02 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 61:13 K:BB over 56 innings, making him an attractive option for fantasy purposes despite the hiccups along the way. He's lined up to face the Diamondbacks the next time he takes the mound.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Escapes with no-decision

Gray allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four over 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader. Gray was bad in his shortest start of the season, but Aaron Nola was even worse, allowing nine runs over 3.2 innings. Both starters gave up three homers, and Gray was lifted after 77 pitches (53 strikes) in this outing. He has posted four quality starts over his last six appearances, but the two exceptions have been ugly. Overall, the 35-year-old has a 4.50 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 51:12 K:BB across 50 innings through nine starts this season. Gray will look to get back on track next week, though he is projected for a tough home matchup versus the Tigers.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Dominates Bucs for fourth win

Gray (4-1) picked up the win Wednesday, scattering two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings in a 5-0 victory. He struck out eight. In his best performance of the season so far, Gray only allowed one baserunner to get into scoring position, and that came when a catcher's interference call put Andrew McCutchen on board after what would have been strike three in the fourth inning. Gray racked up 30 called or swinging strikes over 89 pitches (60 total strikes) in his fourth quality start of the year, and he'll take a 3.50 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 47:11 K:BB through 46.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Philadelphia.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Handed first loss by Mets

Gray (3-1) took the loss Friday as the Cardinals fell 9-3 to the Mets, coughing up six runs (four earned) on nine hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out six. A Willson Contreras error didn't help matters, but Gray was headed to one of his worst outings of the season even if the St. Louis defense had been airtight. The veteran righty has given up double-digit baserunners in back-to-back trips to the mound, and Pete Alonso's two-run shot in the fifth inning was the sixth homer Gray has served up this year in 39.1 innings. He'll carry a 4.12 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 39:10 K:BB into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the Nationals.

Gray worked around seven hits and three walks, both of which marked season worsts for the 35-year-old. He has pitched to a 3.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB across 35 innings this season. Gray currently lines up to make his next start against the Mets at home next weekend.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Quality start versus NYM

Gray pitched six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six batters in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Mets. He did not factor into the decision. He then gave up another run in the third frame before the final run on his ledger scored on an RBI single by Pete Alonso in the bottom of the fifth. Gray has now produced back-to-back quality starts, combining to pitch 13 innings of three-run ball. On the season, the right-hander has compiled a 3.41 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 29 innings in five starts. Gray's next projected start is set to come Saturday at home against Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Fires seven scoreless frames in win

Gray (3-0) earned the win over Houston on Monday, allowing three hits and issuing one walk while striking out four batters over seven scoreless innings. Gray experienced very little pressure in the outing, as only one Astros batter reached second base while he was in the game. The veteran right-hander was efficient in getting through his seven frames on just 92 pitches, as he mostly pitched to contact, registering a modest six whiffs. Gray is off to a 3-0 record to begin the campaign, and he's allowed two or fewer runs in three of his four outings so far. He'll look to keep rolling his next time out, which is lined up to be a tough road matchup against the Mets this weekend.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Grabs win over Pirates

Gray (2-0) got the win Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four over five innings. He did not issue a walk. Gray had three strikeouts over his first two frames and cruised along from there, mostly pitching to weak contact the rest of the way. His lone blemish was allowing a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the fourth, and Gray's day ended rather abruptly after 71 pitches. He's now allowed a home run in all three of his starts but also boasts an impressive 19:2 K:BB in 16 innings thus far. Gray will look to pick up his third win early next week at home versus the Astros.

  • Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Fans nine in no-decision

Gray didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, coughing up five runs on five hits over six-plus innings in a 12-5 win over the Angels. He struck out nine without walking a batter. The veteran right-hander tossed 61 of 88 pitches for strikes, but he eventually got punished for living in the strike zone, as Logan O'Hoppe slugged a grand slam off Gray before he could record an out in the top of the seventh inning. The Cardinals' offense quickly took him off the hook for the loss, however. Gray has a 15:2 K:BB through his first 11 innings this season, but that comes with a 5.73 ERA thanks to three homers allowed. He lines up to make his next trip to the mound on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.
