Ben Paulsen: Cut loose by Twins
Paulsen was released by the Twins on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Paulsen batted just .230 with a 20.3 percent strikeout rate in 74 at-bats with Triple-A Rochester, so the Twins decided to cut ties with him in order to make room for the higher-upside prospects in their system. Despite being kicked out of the organization, the 29-year-old does have a decent bit of MLB service time to his name, so he could find a new job fairly soon with an organization needing depth in the corner outfield or at first base.

Twins' Ben Paulsen: Shifted to minors camp
Paulsen was reassigned to minor-league camp Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Paulsen was hoping to catch on with some reserve at-bats at first base, outfield and designated hitter, but Minnesota instead will stash him at Triple-A Rochester. Byungho Park, who was also sent to the minors, will likely be the first slugger to get the call if the Twins need someone behind Joe Mauer and Kennys Vargas.

Twins' Ben Paulsen: Won't make 25-man roster
Paulsen (calf) struck out as a pinch hitter in Sunday's loss to Boston. He's been told he won't make the final 25-man roster, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Paulsen missed some time after being kicked in the calf in a spring training game last week, but looks fine for the regular season. Paulsen hit just .217/.258/.304 for the Rockies last season. He spent most of his time at Triple-A Albuquerque where he hit .278 with a .765 OPS. He may spend most of his season at Triple-A again this year and provide depth.

Twins' Ben Paulsen: Dealing with minor calf injury
Paulsen (calf) is reportedly okay after being kicked in the calf during Monday's spring league game, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.
Paulsen had to be helped off the field, but luckily, it doesn't appear to be anything serious. It's still unknown how long he'll be held out, so consider him day-to-day until the Twins note otherwise.

Paulsen was forced to exit Monday's game after his heel was stepped on, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.
Paulsen had to be helped off the field after Jonathan Davis stepped on his heel hustling out a ground ball. It's unclear how long the heel issue will keep the 29-year-old sidelined, but he should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

Paulsen signed a minor league contract with Minnesota that includes an invite to spring training.
Paulsen hit just .217/.258/.304 for the Rockies last season. He spent most of his time at Triple-A Albuquerque where he hit .278 with a .765 OPS. The Twins have a logjam at first base and DH, so it's hard to see Paulsen adding anything other than minor league depth.

Paulsen was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.
The Rockies outrighted both Paulsen and Rafael Ynoa on Thursday just two days after designating them for assignment. Paulsen remains in the Rockies' organization, but he's no longer on the 40-man roster and is unlikely to be back up with the big league club this season. He had an opportunity to lock in an everyday role with the Rockies this season but he notched a .217/.258/.304 slash line that forced manager Walt Weiss to look in a different direction at first base.

Rockies' Ben Paulsen: Designated for assignment
Paulsen was designated for assignment on Tuesday, the Denver Post's Nick Kosmider reports.
Paulsen was given a chance to stake his claim as the team's first baseman of the future this year, but that campaign never really took off, as he hit .217/.258/.304 before being demoted to Triple-A in mid-May. He could continue to serve as organizational depth, but the team seems confident moving in a different direction long term. Gerardo Parra, Stephen Cardullo, Mark Reynolds and Jordan Patterson will occupy a timeshare at first base over the final month of the season.

Paulsen was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Nick Kosmider of the Denver Post reports.
Stephen Cardullo was brought up in a corresponding move, and while Cardullo has played mostly in the outfield corners this year with Albuquerque, he could see some chances at first base along with Daniel Descalso. Paulsen flopped in his audition in place of Mark Reynolds (hand), going 3-for-26 with nine strikeouts, but he figures to be back in early September.

Since being demoted in May, Paulsen is hitting .276 with six home runs and 38 RBI in 272 at-bats with Triple-A Albuquerque. Paulsen was recalled as the Rockies placed Mark Reynolds on the disabled list with a hand injury. Paulsen is playing first base and hitting seventh on Friday.

Paulsen was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
With Daniel Descalso being activated from the disabled list, the Rockies needed to make room on the roster, and they chose Paulsen to be the casualty. He hasn't been horrible this season, batting .258 with 10 RBI, but Mark Reynolds has taken over as the starting first baseman, so the Rockies probably thought it was worthwhile getting the 28-year-old more at-bats rather than having him rot on the bench. He'll likely be one of the first ones called up in the event of an injury to a position player, but for now, Paulsen will settle for at-bats in the minor leagues.

Manager Walt Weiss will keep Paulsen on the bench with the Dodgers bringing a lefty to the hill in Alex Wood. In his place, Brandon Barnes will earn a start in the outfield and assume leadoff duties.

Gerardo Parra is taking Blackmon's place in center field, leaving a spot open in left for Paulsen. After being stuck in a first base platoon with Mark Reynolds for the beginning of the season, Paulsen could find himself in a regular role as the Rockies' left fielder with Blackmon sidelined. Paulsen doesn't quite have the same power as other members of the Rockies' lineup, but he can hit for a solid average and get on base.

Rockies' Ben Paulsen: Knocks out three hits
Paulen went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's win over the Giants.
The playing time has been limited so far for Paulsen, but he's certainly outhitting Mark Reynolds, who's clipping along at a .167 pace, in the early going. While Reynolds could hardly ask for a better situation than Colorado, he's a one-dimensional hitter and Paulsen should be able to surpass him in playing time as the season goes on.
