Evan Scribner: Released by Tampa Bay
Scribner was released by the Rays on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports.
Scribner was participating in Tampa Bay's camp as a non-roster invitee. He appeared in eight big-league games with the Mariners during the 2017 season, allowing nine earned runs over 7.1 innings of relief. Over the course of his career, the right-hander has accumulated a 4.15 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 145 games. He will look to latch on with another organization in the coming weeks, but even in the event that he finds a new home, it's unlikely that Scribner will begin the 2018 campaign at the major-league level.

Rays' Evan Scribner: Back in game action
Scribner (elbow) pitched a scoreless inning in his spring debut Sunday against the Twins.
The right-hander missed much of last season with a flexor bundle strain, but it seems like everything is back in working order with his injured elbow. With the injury behind him, Scribner can now focus on claiming a low-leverage bullpen role with the Rays.

Rays' Evan Scribner: Gets spring invite from Rays
Scribner (elbow) signed a minor-league deal with the Rays which includes an invitation to spring training, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Scribner appeared in just eight games for the Mariners last season before suffering a flexor bundle strain in late April. He made a few rehab appearances late in the year but did not make it back to the big leagues. The veteran righty has a 4.15 ERA and a 3.57 xFIP in 169 career major-league innings, numbers which could be good enough for a lower-leverage spot in a big-league bullpen if Scribner can prove that he's fully recovered from his injury.

Evan Scribner: Cut loose by Mariners
Scribner (elbow) was released by the Mariners on Tuesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
This isn't too surprising, as Scribner wasn't expected to make it back to the majors before the end of the season due to a flexor bundle strain that has kept him on the shelf since April. Scribner allowed nine runs through 7.1 innings before injuring himself, and he'll head into 2018 with a 4.15 ERA over 169 career innings.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Begins rehab assignment
Scribner (elbow) began rehab assignment with the Mariners' rookie-level Arizona League team Saturday, tossing a scoreless inning and giving up one hit.
It was Scribner's first game action since late April, when he was moved to the disabled list with a flexor bundle strain in his right elbow. Scribner will need several rehab appearances across multiple affiliates before the Mariners feel comfortable activating him from the 60-day DL.

Scribner (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.
Scribner landed on the disabled list earlier in the year with a flexor bundle strain, and it now appears the ailment will keep him sidelined for at least a couple months. He was scheduled to get a second opinion on his injured elbow sometime this week, though it's unclear if that prompted the decision to transfer him to the 60-day DL. More should be known once the Mariners update Scribner's status. Casey Lawrence was claimed off waivers to take his place on the 40-man roster.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Gets second opinion on elbow
Scribner (elbow) saw orthopedic specialist Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday in Los Angeles for a second opinion on his injured elbow, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Further word on the outcome of that appointment will likely be available Tuesday, but Scribner looked out of sorts in his eight appearances prior to the injury. He gave up nine earned runs on 13 hits -- including three home runs -- over 7.3 innings, leading to an 11.05 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and two losses.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Lands on DL
Scribner was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with a flexor bundle strain, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Scribner hasn't looked sharp all year. The 31-year-old is sporting a 1.77 WHIP and 11.05 ERA through 7.1 innings and has allowed at least one run in five of his eight appearances so far. It's unclear how long the injury will keep him sidelined, but a firmer return date should be available once the Mariners update his status. Boog Powell was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Takes second loss of season Thursday
Scribner (0-2) notched three strikeouts and gave up an earned run on one hit over 1.2 innings in Thursday's 9-6 loss to the Athletics.
Scribner gave up an RBI groundout to Rajai Davis in the sixth, which snapped a 5-5 tie and saddled him with his second loss of the season. The 31-year-old continues to rack up the strikeouts but surrender the runs as well, as he's now fanned five batters across his last two appearances while also giving up an earned run in each. He's turned in a pair of two-run outings as well, leading to a bloated 10.13 ERA over his first 5.1 innings.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Gives up solo homer Monday
Scribner gave up an earned run on one hit -- a solo home run -- over an inning in Monday's 6-1 win over the Marlins. He struck out two.
Scribner bounced back from surrendering a 387-foot solo shot to Christian Yelich with one out by striking out Giancarlo Stanton on four pitches and then retiring Marcell Ozuna on a grounder to third to end the game. The 31-year-old hadn't seen action since April 10 after heavy use over the first eight days of the season, a stretch in which he logged four appearances. While the way he retired two of the Marlins' most dangerous hitters to close out the victory Monday was encouraging, Scribner is still trying to hit his stride after having surrendered five earned runs and two homers over his first 3.2 innings of 2017.

Scribner pitched a clean ninth inning in Monday's 6-0 victory over the Astros.
The 31-year-old right-hander's ERA remains an unsightly 13.50 due to the fact he'd given up two earned runs apiece in his previous two trips to the mound, but Monday's effort in a low-leverage scenario was at least a confidence booster if nothing else. Scribner has been used in a one-inning role in the last two appearances and demonstrated an ability to handle a robust workload last season in Oakland, when he tallied 60 innings across 54 appearances.

Scribner returned to the bullpen Tuesday, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings in a loss to the Astros.
The right-hander had missed a few days with a nasty bout of the flu, though it appears he's good to go as the season gets underway. Scribner had a productive spring training, finishing with a 1.29 ERA over seven scattered innings of work. He'll look to serve as an effective middle reliever in his second season with the team.

Scribner (illness) worked out with his teammates Sunday, and manager Scott Servais reported the pitcher should be 100 percent for Monday's opener versus the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
A bout with the flu took a considerable toll on the veteran reliever over the past couple of days, leaving him five pounds lighter. However, his level of activity Sunday seems to validate Servais' faith that Scribner will be available if needed Monday against the Astros.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Slowed by flu
Scribner has lost five pounds due to flu symptoms over the past few days and is not playing in games this weekend, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
This certainly isn't the best news with Opening Day right around the corner, but it does allow Scribner to get plenty of rest with the hope of being ready for the season. The veteran reliever is eyeing an expanded role in the Seattle bullpen after allowing just one earned run over seven Cactus League innings this spring. Consider him day-to-day.

Mariners' Evan Scribner: Ready to be key bullpen piece
Scribner, who missed all of spring and the first five months of the 2016 season with a lat strain, is being counted on as a key member of the 2017 bullpen, Doug Miller of MLB.com reports. "He's a stable guy," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He really throws strikes, [plus] the back-and-forth with the curveball and what he brings. He's a [trustworthy] guy. You put him in the game, and you have a pretty good idea of what you're going to get."
The 31-year-old righty was impressive when he made it back to game action last season during the Mariners playoff push, giving up just five hits and two walks over 14 scoreless innings while striking out 15. This spring, he's surrendered just an earned run over five appearances and with a clean bill of health, he's ready to be deployed in the inning-plus relief role he often filled in Oakland from 2012-15. Scribner topped out at 54 appearances and 60 frames in his final A's campaign in 2015, amassing eight holds and putting together a stellar 64:4 K:BB.

Scribner agreed to a one-year deal with the Mariners on Friday, avoiding arbitration, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
This was his second year as an arbitration-eligible player. The terms of the agreement were not announced. He should spend the season working primarily in the seventh and eighth inning, and could make for a solid source of strikeouts in very deep leagues (30.6 percent strikeout rate last season).

Scribner pitched two scoreless innings Wednesday, giving up one hit and striking out two in a pivotal middle-relief appearance against the Astros.
Scribner entered in the sixth inning with two on and a run already in. He struck out the first two batters and then got George Springer to ground out to preserve a 7-4 lead. Scribner was sidelined almost all year with a back injury, but since returning in early September, he hasn't allowed a run in 10 appearances (12.1 IP) with 14 strikeouts and one intentional walk.

While on his rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma, Scribner allowed two runs over 4.2 innings spread across four games. Now that he's off the disabled list, Scribner will head to the bullpen and pitch in the majors for the first time since 2015.
