  • Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Expected to return after break

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Heyward (knee) won't need a rehab assignment and is on track to be activated off the 10-day injured list following the All-Star break, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Heyward was pulled from a game against Arizona on July 4 due to left knee pain and subsequently landed on the IL. An MRI revealed no structural damage, and the veteran outfielder looks like he'll be ready to go when the Dodgers open the second half of the schedule next Friday versus Boston. James Outman was called up from the minors following Heyward's injury and has been starting in the outfield most of the time against right-handed pitchers since his promotion.

An MRI on Friday revealed Heyward is dealing with a left knee contusion that will require a stint on the injured list, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Heyward got some good news Friday, as the MRI showed no structural damage in his left knee. Still, Heyward will hit the IL, leaving a roster spot open for James Outman. Although he'll be out for over a week, Heyward could be back after the All-Star break.
