  • Astros' Danny Worth: Assigned to Triple-A Fresno

After being designated for assignment last Sunday, Worth cleared waivers and has been assigned to Triple-A Fresno, Angel Verdejo Jr. of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Back in Triple-A, he owns a .340/.449/.550 line with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 191 at-bats. Worth will have a hard time finding playing time with Houston again this season, as the Astros called up top prospect Alex Bregman just over a week ago.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Designated for assignment

Worth was designated for assignment by the Astros on Sunday.

Since joining the Astros, the 30-year-old has posted just a .442 OPS over the course of 15 games (38 at-bats). The move came following Sunday's contest, when Marwin Gonzalez left with an ankle sprain. While there may be no correlation, Houston will look to improve their offensive production, adding Alex Bregman, one of the team's top prospects, potentially as an everyday utility man.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Starts at third base Tuesday, hits second vs. LHP

Worth drew the start at third base and hit second in the lineup in his debut for the Astros on Tuesday, going 1-for-4 in a 5-2 win over the Cardinals.

Worth hit .340/.449/.550 in 54 games for Triple-A Fresno prior to his promotion, but it was still somewhat surprising to see him in the two-hole for the Astros. The career backup only has 296 big league plate appearances on his resume, but he's a better hitter against southpaws (.262 career average) than he is against right-handers (.200). Expect to see Worth in the starting lineup when the Astros host the Reds over the weekend, as Cincinnati is expected to start a trio of lefties (John Lamb, Cody Reed and Brandon Finnegan) during the three-game series.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Called up Tuesday

Worth had his contract selected Tuesday.

Worth had been on a season-long tear with Triple-A Fresno, slashing .340/.449/.550 with eight homers over 54 games, so he'll make his first appearance of the season in the majors. Luke Gregerson was placed on the family medical emergency list in a corresponding move, so it's unclear how long Worth's stint will last once Gregerson returns.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Expected to be recalled Tuesday

Worth is expected to be recalled by the Astros on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Although the Astros have not hinted at what the corresponding roster move will be, McTaggart reports that Worth will likely be called up to make his 2016 big league debut Tuesday. Worth has been on a tear at Triple-A Fresno this season, slashing .340/.449/.550 with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 191 at-bats. Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports that Worth made a pair of starts at third base over the weekend, so that could be where the Astros plug him in provided he is called up Tuesday.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Continues streaky hitting

Worth went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and RBI in Triple-A Fresno's 14-3 win over Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Worth now has seven hits, nine runs, and four RBI over his last six games. He's picking up right where he left off in 2015 and then some as he's raised his average from .314 to .341 and increased his OBP from .394 to .429. If the second basemen continues his hot hitting ways, Houston is going to have a tough time keeping him in the minors much longer.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Will start season at Triple-A

Manager AJ Hinch informed Worth that he will start the season with Triple-A Fresno, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Worth put together a solid .333 batting average this spring, but it wasn't good enough to garner a reserve role with the Astros. That being said, Worth posted an excellent .314/.394/.469 slash line at the Triple-A level last season, so if he can replicate that, he could force his way back into the major leagues later in the season.

  • Astros' Danny Worth: Signs with Astros

Worth signed a minor league contract with the Astros that includes an invite to spring training, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Worth spent the 2015 season in the Diamondbacks' organization, sporting an impressive .314/.394/.469 slash line in 106 games with the Triple-A club. The 30-year-old has some major league experience, but he figures to serve as organizational infield depth with Houston.
