Tim Lincecum: Granted release Tuesday
Lincecum (finger) was released by the Rangers on Tuesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
With Lincecum's 30-day rehab assignment coming to an end Monday, the Rangers opted to cut him loose rather than make room for him on their active and 40-man rosters. The decision was likely made easier by the 6.17 ERA Lincecum posted over 11.2 innings on his rehab assignment. He'll look to latch on elsewhere, though at this point it's tough to see him making an impact at the major-league level again.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Decision day looms
Lincecum's 30-day rehabilitation assignment for a blister he suffered on his right middle finger ends Monday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
The Rangers don't appear to be ready to bring Lincecum up to the majors. The right-hander has a 6.17 ERA over 11.2 innings and has allowed 1.89 baserunners per inning. Manager Jeff Banister said the report he received indicated good fastball command, but the velocity is down and his secondary stuff needs work. Come Monday, the Rangers will need to activate him, ask him to remain on the disabled list indefinitely, request a minor-league assignment, or offer him his release.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: No decision on activation
The Rangers have yet to map out a target return date for Lincecum (finger) to return from the 60-day disabled list, Dic Humphrey of MLB.com reports.
Lincecum's health no longer seems to be much of a concern since he has already logged eight rehab appearances at Triple-A Round Rock, but his poor performance in those outings has delayed the Rangers from adding him onto the active roster. The right-hander has given up eight runs on 13 hits and seven walks over 9.2 innings at Round Rock while showcasing diminished velocity, providing little optimism that he'll be able to find much success against major-league hitters. He may need to string together several quality performances in a row in the Pacific Coast League before he returns to the majors for the first time since 2016.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Throws two innings Thursday
Lincecum (finger) tossed two innings of relief for Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Jeff Arnold of MLB.com reports.
There is still no timetable for Lincecum, who is 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA over five minor-league appearances. Manager Jeff Banister was pleased with Thursday's performance, when Lincecum got up to 28 pitches (16 strikes), but maintains the right-hander will remain on the disabled list until he can throw three innings.

Lincecum (finger) allowed two baserunners and struck out two in a scoreless inning for Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.
This was Lincecum's third outing -- and the first scoreless one -- of his rehabilitation stint. The report following Friday's outing was similar to his first two appearances: the right-hander is building arm strength and trying to push his velocity beyond 90 mph.

Rangers' Tim Lincecum: Begins rehab assignment
Lincecum (finger) allowed two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two over one inning in the first game of his rehabilitation assignment, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Lincecum threw 16 pitches (nine strikes) for Triple-A Round Rock in his first game appearance since Sept. 4, 2016. "It was pretty nerve wracking, my first three batters or so," Lincecum told reporters. "My nerves were going. My legs were shaking a little bit. Other than that, it was nice to get my feet wet." The right-hander, who will pitch again Wednesday, has been on the disabled list after developing a blister on his right middle finger. During spring training, there had been some talk of Lincecum filling the Rangers' vacant closer role, but that doesn't appear to be an option as Keone Kela (7-for-7) has been flawless in save situations. If Lincecum can get back to being an effective pitcher in the majors, the Rangers will most likely showcase him as a potential trade piece for later in the season.

Lincecum, who is on the 60-day disabled list with blister issues, has been working through a throwing program at extended spring training. He completed a 26-pitch bullpen with no issues Saturday, clearing the way for him to get back into game action with a minor-league affiliate. Lincecum reported to extended spring training last week to continue his throwing program, and he's now ready to get back in game action there. Barring any setbacks, the veteran right-hander should be cleared to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment after getting a few games under his belt at extended spring training. He's eligible to return from the 60-day DL on May 28.
