The Yankees designated outfielder Dewayne Wise for assignment Monday, Marc Carig of the Star-Ledger reported.

With the Yankees acquiring Ichiro Suzuki, the Yankees had to cut an outfielder. Wise had largely served as a defensive replacement, able to spell aging power hitters Andruw Jones and Raul Ibanez if necessary.

Wise had a .262/.286/.492 line in 56 games as a Yankee, including three home runs and seven steals.
