The Brewers will make a decision on Shaun Marcum's return date following a bullpen session Friday, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Thursday.
Marcum threw two rehab starts with Low-A Wisconsin, with the last a 3.2 inning outing Wednesday. According to manager Ron Roenicke, the last inning gave both Marcum and the team pause:
He threw 3 2/3 innings (Wednesday in his second outing with the Timber Rattlers. He felt good but said the last inning he didn't throw as well. He said his cutters were really sliding across too big and missing with some location.
As such, the Brewers want to make sure Marcum is sufficiently ready before thrusting him back into game action. The righty hasn't pitched in the majors since June 14. At the time, he was one of the Brewers' top-two starters along with Zack Greinke, posting a 3.39 ERA and 3.86 FIP in his 13 starts.
