The Rays have agreed to a one-year deal with reliever Kyle Farnsworth, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.
The deal is between $1.25 million and $1.5 million, with incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com. Crasnick believes the deal will be worth up to $3 million if Farnsworth hits all of his incentives.
Farnsworth, 36, had to decide between the Rays and one other team, Crasnick reported Monday.
Farnsworth will likely pitch in a set-up role, as the Rays will head into the year with Fernando Rodney as their closer. With the Rays, Farnsworth had the finest season of his career in 2011. In 57 2/3 innings that season, he had a 2.18 ERA and a 3.16 FIP, with 25 saves. He was limited by injuries last year, only throwing 27 innings with the club.
