Arbitration-eligible Pirates starter Jeff Karstens could be non-tendered after the season, Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday.

Karstens was reasonably successful this season with the Pirates, posting a 4.01 ERA in 15 starts including a stellar 4.3 K/BB. But right-shoulder inflammation forced him to miss all of May and most of June, and questions surrounding his durability linger. He has yet to throw more than 170 innings in a season at age 29.

Karstens made $3.1 million this season and would likely be looking at a raise to somewhere in the $5 million area in his second arbitration season next year.
