Rockies first baseman Jason Giambi has earned a second meeting with the team’s brass, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post.
Giambi reportedly had an “impressive” interview on Thursday, and the team is intrigued about what he could offer as manager. Giambi has stated that if he were to be hired as the club’s manager, he would retire as a player.
The Rockies will not look at candidates outside the organization anymore, according to Renck. He believes that’s a sign that the team is taking Giambi’s candidacy seriously.
Giambi has emerged as a respected leader in the clubhouse throughout his tenure in Colorado. He has the respect of his teammates and has spent time discussing strategy with Rockies bench coach Tom Runnells. Runnells also remains a candidate to be the next Rockies manager.
