The Cardinals have reached out to recently released reliever Brian Fuentes, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reported Friday.

St. Louis has been looking for relief help for much of the season. The Cardinals' left-handed relievers have largely struggled, with Marc Rzepcynski flailing with a 5.52 ERA in 29.1 innings and J.C. Romero released after posting a 10.13 ERA in just 11 appearances.

Fuentes hasn't been any better this season -- a 6.84 ERA and similarly bad peripherals before his release -- but perhaps his 3.70 ERA in 2011 and 2.81 mark in 2010 have the Cardinals believing something could be left in his tank.
