The Red Sox optioned outfielder Ryan Kalish back to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for new (and old) signee Scott Podsednik, the club announced via Twitter.
Boston sent Podsednik to the Diamondbacks in a deadline day trade that sent Matt Albers to Arizona as well and brough Craig Breslow back to the Red Sox. The Diamondbacks released Podsednik after he declined an assignment to Triple-A Reno. He hit .387/.409/.484 for the Red Sox in 19 games (70 plate appearances).
Kalish, 24, has struggled in his second major league stint this season, hitting just .203/.247/.241 with no homers in 25 games. He heads back to Pawtucket, where he hit .307/.388/.533 in 17 games this season.
