The Rangers are close to a deal with reliever Jason Frasor, the team announced. The deal is for $1.5 million according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News was the first to report the two sides were close. The deal is for one year.
The 35-year-old righty has spent nearly his entire career with the Blue Jays, with the exception of 17 2/3 innings with the White Sox in 2011. While Frasor has some experience as a closer, he’s been primarily used as a set-up man throughout his career. He would likely remain in that role with the Rangers, who have both Joe Nathan and Joakim Soria in the fold.
In 43 2/3 innings last season, Frasor had a 4.12 ERA and a 4.10 FIP. His strikeout rate soared to a career high, but came at the expense of more walks. He also struggled with the long ball last season, likely to continue to be a problem in Texas.
