The Rangers have acquired pitcher Tommy Hottovy from the Royals in exchange for a player to be named and cash, the club announced on Thursday.

Hottovy, 31, has thrown just 13 1/3 career MLB innings between the Red Sox (2011) and Royals (2012), with a 4.05 ERA and a 1.725 WHIP. The lefty spent most of 2012 at Triple-A Omaha in the Royals' system, where he recorded a 2.52 ERA and a sharp 3.81 K/BB in 41 relief appearances (50 innings pitched).
