R.A. Dickey deal agreed upon, pending extension with Jays

The Mets and Blue Jays have agreed to a deal that would send R.A. Dickey to Toronto if he agrees to an extension with the team.

So, the waiting for the R.A. Dickey deal continues, but for a different reason -- to see if Dickey will sign an extension, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman and Danny Knobler confirm.

The two sides have agreed to a deal that would send the reigning National League Cy Young winner to Toronto in a package that would send Jays top prospect Travis d'Arnaud and others to the Mets. However, the deal is dependent on an extension for Dickey. The Blue Jays would have 72 hours -- expiring Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET -- to get a deal done.

FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the deal.

While Dickey was asking for a two-year extension worth $26 million from the Mets, there's no guarantee he'd accept the same deal from a team other than New York.

According to the New York Post, the teams were looking at a multi-player deal that would send Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and another prospect to Toronto in exchange for d'Arnaud, right-hander Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck and another prospect. The New York Daily News' Andy Martino tweets that the agreed-upon deal includes d'Arnaud and Syndegaard.

Baseball America rated d'Arnaud as Toronto's top prospect while naming Syndergaard the No. 3 prospect in the system. The magazine had outfielder Jake Marisnick as the team's No. 2 prospect. Marisnick was part of the megadeal with the Marlins.
