Outfielder Endy Chavez and catcher Taylor Teagarden are participating in rehab at High-A Delmarva on Wednesday and could be activated Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reported.
The question, then, is who the Orioles kick off the 25-man roster to make room for this pair. Chavez has an atrocious .402 OPS on the season, something his excellent glove cannot make up for. Teagarden has yet to play for the Orioles this season and has just a .220/.286/.417 slash line in 118 career games.
Teagarden is likely an upgrade over backup catcher Ronny Paulino. The 31-year-old has value as a lefty masher but has just a .507 OPS against southpaws this season.
Chavez's return may kick rookie Xavier Avery back to Triple-A. Avery's .672 OPS is still a far sight better than Chavez's bat has been this season, but the Orioles may want to see the youngster develop more in Triple-A with consistent playing time.
