Jose Lopez has signed a one-year, $1.2-million contract with the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan for the 2013 season, CBSSports.com insider Jon Heyman reported Monday. The contract includes $500,000 in performance bonuses and a club option for the 2014 season.

Lopez, a 29-year-old infielder, hit .246/.270/.356 in 81 games split between Cleveland and the White Sox in 2012. Lopez reached the All-Star game in 2006 -- a season in which he hit only .282/.319/.405 (89 OPS+) -- and has been otherwise underwhelming. His career line is .262/.292/.395 (84 OPS+) over 1,036 major league games.
