Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right shoulder, the club announced Tuesday. The issue has been lingering since Jay ran into the outfield wall a few weeks ago.

Jay, 27, is hitting .343/.395/.438 with two homers, eight RBI and 18 runs.

It will be interesting to see what direction the Cardinals take in terms of a replacement in the lineup. Allen Craig is an obvious offensive boost, but he's only played 29 innings in center in his entire career. He's started there five times but only played one full game. Flanked by Matt Holliday and Carlos Beltran, the outfield defense would certainly be weak.

Shane Robinson can play also center and was recalled as the corresponding move. He was demoted just a few days ago to make room for a returning Lance Berkman, but due to Jay's move to the DL, Robinson is allowed be immediately recalled. He hit well for the Cardinals in his recent stint, but he doesn't have the stick Craig does. He is a better fit in center, though.
