Cole Hamels is expected to be available at the trade deadline, but Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. isn't ready to give up on the season.

Amaro still believes the Phillies can compete for the playoffs this season, and trading Hamels diminishes their chances.

While Amaro wouldn't comment on negotiations, he said there's a chance the team will re-sign Hamels.

If the Phillies aren't able to turn things around, Amaro will consider trading the 28-year-old lefty before he reaches free agency.

  • Hunter Pence, Cliff Lee and Shane Victorino could all be made available if the Phillies become sellers, according to CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury.
  • ESPN's Jayson Stark spoke to one executive who believes the Phillies will wait until Ryan Howard and Roy Halladay return before trading Hamels.
