Gavin Floyd out indefinitely with elbow tendinitis

White Sox starting pitcher Gavin Floyd is out indefinitely with elbow tendinitis, but it's still possible he'll avoid a stint on the disabled list, as an MRI revealed no structural damage.

White Sox starting pitcher Gavin Floyd was slotted to start Monday in Boston coming out of the All-Star break, but he's now been scratched and replaced by Dylan Axelrod. Floyd had an MRI on his balky elbow/forearm area, which showed no structural damage. So that was relatively good news.

As far as when Floyd can pitch again, the White Sox currently have him in a holding pattern -- which means he's out "indefinitely," but that doesn't mean he's necessarily going to be out for a long period of time. He may even avoid a stint on the disabled list.

“It shouldn’t be a DL, but we’ll see when he gets back and how much soreness he has,” said White Sox manager Robin Ventura (suntimes.com).

Floyd, 29, is 7-8 with a 4.54 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 103 innings for the first-place White Sox this season. If he did hit the disabled list, he'd join fellow starters John Danks and Philip Humber.
