Marlins center fielder Emilio Bonifacio has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb (Fish Tank blog). Utility infielder Donovan Solano has been called up as a corresponding move. The Marlins announced these moves late Sunday morning.

Also keep in mind the Marlins demoted Gaby Sanchez to the minors Saturday night and recalled Chris Coghlan. So this might be the chance for the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year to get back into good graces, with center field open. The only other viable option in center would be Bryan Petersen.

Bonifacio, 27, is hitting .268/.351/.315 with 19 runs and an MLB-best 20 stolen bases. He's only been caught stealing once.

Solano, 24, has split time between shortstop and second base in Triple-A this season, and he's played third base some in the past, too. He's hitting .262/.327/.326 with seven doubles, a triple, 14 runs and 14 RBI through 36 Triple-A games.
