Several teams have had serious injury woes thus far in the 2012 season, but the Cardinals seem to have gotten much of the attention for two reasons: 1. They are the defending champions; 2. Their injuries issues are really bad.

So when the Cardinals announced IF/OF Skip Schumaker was being placed on the disabled list Friday with a right hamstring strain, it came as relatively good news. That's because the corresponding move was to activate Allen Craig from the DL.

Craig, 27, was destroying the ball before he was injured (again). He opened the season on the disabled list due to an offseason knee surgery, making his 2012 debut on May 1. He was then placed on the DL May 18 with a hamstring issue.

In between, Craig hit .373/.424/.765 with five homers and 19 RBI in just 13 games. Craig has the ability to play nearly anywhere on the field defensively, so expect him to accrue everyday at-bats in a similar fashion to Matt Carpenter (prior to his injury).
