Brewers right-hander Shaun Marcum has hit the 15-Day disabled list because of tightness in his throwing elbow. The move is retroactive to June 15 -- the day after Marcum's last start, when he first experienced discomfort -- which means he's eligible to be activated next weekend.
While there's no reason to believe that Marcum's current injury is serious, it's still worth noting that he underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2008.
On the season, Marcum has a 3.39 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched. By any standard, he's been the Brewers' second-best starter in 2012 behind Zack Greinke.
While it's not yet certain who will replace Marcum in the Milwaukee rotation, first baseman Travis Ishikawa will replace him on the active roster.
