The Brewers have officially acquired right-handed reliever Fautino De Los Santos for catcher George Kottaras, tweeted Brewers media relations director Mike Vassallo. Eye on Baseball had coverage of the trade Saturday afternoon, when CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported that Kottaras, designated for assignment on Thursday, was headed to the Bay Area.
De Los Santos pitched in six games in April for Oakland this season and was sent to the minors with a 3.00 ERA and 3.33 WHIP in three innings of work. He allowed seven hits, one earned run, and opponents hit .412 against him.
In 28 games in Triple-A, with Sacramento in the hitters-friendly Pacific Coast League, De Los Santos struggled, posting a 7.25 ERA. He allowed 49 hits and 29 earned runs in 36 innings. He does have a power arm, having struck out 43 batters.
De Los Santos has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville by the Brewers, with Shaun Marcum moving to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the roster.
While acknowledging his struggles, De Los Santos, 26, still has some upside, and a scout recently pegged him as having "a 70 fastball and flashing a plus slider," tweeted Baseball America's Ben Badler.
