The Baltimore Orioles need a whole lot more results like the one they obtained to begin their three-game series against the visiting Cleveland Guardians.

Baltimore will aim for back-to-back victories when the teams meet Tuesday night.

The Orioles (70-75) snapped a six-game losing streak by winning 6-4 in the series opener on Monday as they try to climb back into the American League wild-card mix.

It marked the first time in four games that Baltimore scored more than one run in a game. The Orioles were shut out twice as the Boston Red Sox swept them in their previous series.

The second-place Guardians (73-72) are 3-4 in their past seven games as they try to catch the first-place White Sox (75-68) in the AL Central. Chicago holds a three-game lead on Cleveland, which sits in the third AL wild-card position.

In the wild-card chase, the Guardians are a game up on the Toronto Blue Jays (72-73), 1 1/2 games ahead of the Texas Rangers (71-73) and three games in front of the Orioles.

"The rest of the year feels like the postseason," Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt said. "That's how it works in September."

The Guardians used five pitchers to get through eight innings on Monday, so they will be looking for Tanner Bibee (5-15, 4.06 ERA) to give them an extended start on Tuesday. The right-hander worked into at least the sixth inning in nine consecutive outings prior to a four-plus-inning stint in a loss to visiting Toronto on Thursday. He gave up five runs on four hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Bibee is in danger of his career record (now 39-38) dipping to .500 after registering double-digit win totals in his previous three big-league seasons. He blanked the Orioles for six innings in an April 17 no-decision, leaving him with a 2-1 record and a 3.65 ERA in four career meetings with Baltimore.

Right-hander Brandon Young (9-3, 3.42) is Baltimore's scheduled starting pitcher. He hasn't had a decision in his last four outings. On Tuesday, he will attempt to become the second Orioles pitcher in as many days to reach the 10-win level, following Trevor Rogers.

Young allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Thursday. He has given up at least one home run -- and seven total -- in his past four starts.

In his only career matchup with Cleveland, Young gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings and was charged with a loss in July 2025.

With Josh Walker finishing the Monday game on the mound, the Orioles have a franchise-record 11 pitchers with at least one save this year. The team leader in the category is Andrew Kittredge with nine saves, but he blew a lead on Wednesday, then yielded three runs in the ninth inning on Monday before Walker got the last out.

Baltimore had a comfortable lead in the series opener thanks in part to Coby Mayo, who clubbed his 20th and 21st home runs.

"Definitely a cool accomplishment," Mayo said of reaching the 20-homer mark for the first time. "You don't go into the year chasing numbers, but I think when the year plays out, you kind of see what's going on, and it's been really cool. It's been a cool year for me personally, but obviously, more happy that we got the win today and a step in the right direction."

Despite the Orioles' offensive woes, Mayo owns an 11-game hitting streak.

"The second half of the season, he's shown that he's resilient," Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said of Mayo. "I mean, going through the first half, it's just like any young player navigating the ups and downs of the season. He did a great job of doing that. Now you look up, he has two of (home runs in this game)."

Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso drew a bases-loaded walk on Monday to drive in his 95th run. He is pursuing his fourth 100-RBI season in a five-year span.
