The 2023 Memorial Tournament marked the penultimate designated event on the 2023 PGA Tour schedule. Now into the summer months of the calendar, the Memorial looks to serve as a launch pad for many of the world's best with the second half of major championship season set to begin.

Rory McIlroy, Si Woo Kim and David Lipsky -- the latter of whom finished seventh last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge -- entered the final round atop the leaderboard with plenty of other stars in chase. One of those stars, Viktor Hovland, rose above the rest with a Sunday charge that included edging Denny McCarthy in a one-hole playoff to capture the trophy and the $3.6 million winner's share at Muirfield Village.

The Masters ($18 million) and PGA Championship ($17.5 million) put forth significant purses this year. However, as has been standard with the PGA Tour's still-newish designated events in 2023 the Memorial offered a total of $20 million to the golfers who made the cut.

Those who finished inside the top 36 cleared six figures with those inside the top 11 all collecting more than $500,000. Each of the top-three finishers will soon see seven figures hit their bank account with Hovland's $3.6 million standing slightly more than Brooks Koepka's $3.15 million payday at the PGA Championship and Jon Rahm's $3.24 million check from the Masters.

Jon Rahm entered the week just $400,000 behind world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler for most money earned this season with $14.5 million.

Scheffler took home $1.38 million for finishing solo third, while Rahm brought in $275,500 after finishing T16 alongside seven other golfers. As such, Scheffler has increased his lead on Rahm to $1.5 million entering the second half of major championship season.
