Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm's battle for the world's No. 1 ranking resumes this week at the 2023 Memorial Tournament. Rahm won the PGA Tour event at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 2021 and had to withdraw with a huge lead the following year. Scheffler has been the hottest golfer in the world and reclaimed the top spot in the rankings with his Players Championship victory in March. Rahm and Scheffler will be expensive options for 2023 Memorial Tournament fantasy golf picks. So will elite golfers like two-time Memorial champion Patrick Cantlay and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy. Will the top stars in the loaded field be worth the price, or are there sleepers who can help your Memorial 2023 fantasy golf lineups?

Scheffler (6-1) and Rahm (7-1) are the favorites in the latest 2023 Memorial Tournament golf odds at Caesars Sportsbook. Cantlay (10-1) and McIlroy (12-1) also will be pricey plays for your 2023 Memorial Tournament fantasy golf lineups? Would a multiple major champion like Collin Morikawa (22-1), Justin Thomas (30-1) or Jordan Spieth (30-1) put you in a better position to win at a better price? Before locking in any 2023 Memorial Tournament fantasy golf picks or PGA Tour bets, make sure you check out the Memorial Tournament Fantasy golf rankings from fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players' games fit the courses.

At last week's Charles Schwab Challenge, six of Holliman's top 10 picks finished 16th or better, and all three longshots made the cut, led by Justin Suh (+10000), who tied for 16th. The expert was on fire on his predictions for the PGA Championship. The top three finishers at Oak Hill were all among his top five picks. As for winner Brooks Koepka, Holliman said "he can beat anyone when stakes are high." He certainly proved that when he won by two strokes for his fifth major victory.

Holliman has been on a serious roll: He was all over Jason Day (+1800) as a top contender at the Byron Nelson before the Australian's first victory in more than five years. He also nailed Tony Finau (+850) as his top choice at the Mexico Open, and longshot play Eric Cole (+10000) posted a top-five finish.

The expert had Rahm (+750) at No. 1 before his Masters victory and backed Scheffler (+1000) to win the Players Championship. Anyone who has followed Holliman's predictions is way up on their golf picks.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers for the 2023 Memorial Tournament, and you'll really want to see what he has to say. The picks are only available at SportsLine.

2023 Memorial Tournament expert golf picks

One player Holliman is confident in at Muirfield Village is Cantlay, who has torched the course but also is in excellent form. The 31-year-old has finished in the top four in four of the past five Memorial Tournaments and also tied for seventh at the 2020 Workday Charity Open at Muirfield. Cantlay has seven top-10 finishes in 13 outings this season, and six have come since February. The most recent was his last tournament, when Cantlay tied for ninth at the PGA Championship. His last victory came in the BMW late last season, and Holliman says "Cantlay is ready to win again."

On the other hand, McIlroy's course history and recent play have been less than stellar, and Holliman is fading him this week. The Northern Irishman had shot 71 or worse in eight of nine stroke-play rounds before closing with three straight 69's to tie for seventh at the PGA Championship. He had missed two cuts and tied for 47th in his previous three stroke-play events. McIlroy also hasn't fared well lately at Muirfield, with four straight finishes of T-18 or worse. Accuracy is the key to success at Jack's Place, and McIlroy has been off target with every club in his bag this season. See who he is backing at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 Memorial Tournament golf rankings

For this week's PGA tournament, Holliman is backing several underdogs, including one massive longshot who comes in at more than 200-1. The expert says it's just a matter of time before this golfer starts stringing great rounds together. See who it is, and get all Holliman's picks, at SportsLine.
