One player Holliman is confident in at Muirfield Village is Cantlay, who has torched the course but also is in excellent form. The 31-year-old has finished in the top four in four of the past five Memorial Tournaments and also tied for seventh at the 2020 Workday Charity Open at Muirfield. Cantlay has seven top-10 finishes in 13 outings this season, and six have come since February. The most recent was his last tournament, when Cantlay tied for ninth at the PGA Championship. His last victory came in the BMW late last season, and Holliman says "Cantlay is ready to win again."
On the other hand, McIlroy's course history and recent play have been less than stellar, and Holliman is fading him this week. The Northern Irishman had shot 71 or worse in eight of nine stroke-play rounds before closing with three straight 69's to tie for seventh at the PGA Championship. He had missed two cuts and tied for 47th in his previous three stroke-play events. McIlroy also hasn't fared well lately at Muirfield, with four straight finishes of T-18 or worse.
