  • Texans' Kenyon Green: Competing for starting role

    Texans' GM Nick Caserio told reporters Thursday that Green (shoulder) must earn his starting spot as the offseason progresses, Cole Thompson of USA Today reports. Green sustained a shoulder injury during the Texans' preseason finale that forced him to miss the entire 2023 season, but his rehab process has been going well and he could partake in voluntary offseason workouts this week. Once he's able to return to the field, the 2022 first-round pick is expected to compete with Kendrick Green for Houston's top left guard position.

    Green suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday's preseason game against the Saints, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Green's status for Week 1 against Baltimore is now in question after picking up an injury in Houston's final preseason game. He'll be considered questionable leading up to the 2023 opener.

    Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said Wednesday that Green's (knee) status for training camp remains to be determined following the offensive lineman's offseason knee surgery, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports. Green underwent an arthroscopic procedure following the 2022 campaign, but he was expected to make a full recovery in advance of the team's offseason program. However, the 2022 first-round pick remains in the midst of the rehab process during mandatory minicamp and could remain sidelined to start training camp. When healthy, Green is expected to be the Texans' starting left guard in 2023.

Green is expected to make a full recovery and participate in all of the team's offseason programs. The 2022 first-round selection appeared in 15 contests last season, starting 14 games, and is expected to be the Texans' starting left guard in 2023.
