  • Steelers' Denzel Mims: Sticking around Pittsburgh

Mims signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers on Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official website reports. Mims joined Pittsburgh's practice unit in October, failing to appear in a game during the 2023 campaign. The wide receiver will now stick around for the offseason and attempt to crack the team's initial 53-man roster ahead of the 2024 season.

  • Denzel Mims: Joins Steelers' practice squad

Pittsburgh signed Mims (calf) to its practice squad Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Mims was waived by Detroit prior to Week 1, but he has now found another opportunity with a different team. With Diontae Johnson (hamstring) still on injured reserve, the Steelers are thin at wide receiver behind George Pickens.

  • Denzel Mims: Waived with injury settlement

The Lions waived Mims (calf) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Detroit traded for Mims just ahead of training camp, but he couldn't stay on the field due to an ankle issue and then sustained a calf injury while rehabbing. The 2020 second-round pick will now have a chance to choose his next destination should he clear waivers.

  • Lions' Denzel Mims: Heads to injured reserve

Mims (calf) reverted to the Lions' injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Mims dealt with an ankle injury prior to hurting his calf, a combination that has sent him to IR. He'll thus have to miss the entire 2023 season unless he and the Lions agree to terms of an injury settlement. Prior to getting shipped from New York to Detroit in July, the 2020 second-round pick recorded 42 catches in 30 games across three seasons with the Jets.

  • Lions' Denzel Mims: Resumes practicing

Mims (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Mims, who joined the Lions via trade from the Jets earlier in training camp, left practice with an ankle injury last week but looks to be back to full health. The 2020 second-round pick is competing to earn a spot on Detroit's 53-man roster.

  • Lions' Denzel Mims: Injures ankle

Mims injured his ankle during Saturday's practice, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports. Mims came up limping after getting hit hard by safety Tracy Walker. It is not clear if Mims will be able to return in time for Detroit's preseason opener Aug. 11 against the Giants.

  • Lions' Denzel Mims: Sent to Detroit in pick swap

The Lions acquired Mims from the Jets on Wednesday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. New York will receive a 2025 conditional sixth-round draft pick while sending back a 2025 seventh-round pick to Detroit, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. In an effort to drum up last-minute trade interest, the Jets made it public earlier Wednesday that they would cut Mims if a trade didn't materialize. The Cowboys were one of the teams linked to a Mims trade, but Detroit closed the deal, giving the 2020 second-round receiver a needed change of scenery. Buried on the depth chart in New York, the 6-foot-3, 207-pound Mims caught just 42 passes for 676 scoreless yards in 30 games over his first three seasons. With the Lions, Mims will try to carve out a role on the perimeter, where he'll compete with the likes of Marvin Jones, Josh Reynolds, and Kalif Raymond while Jameson Williams is suspended for the first six weeks of the season.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Likely done in New York

The Jets are expected to waive Mims prior to the start of the season unless the team can find a trade partner for him, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Mims, a 2020 second-round pick, hasn't yet scored an NFL touchdown and is evidently on the outside looking in of a crowded receiver room featuring Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman (groin) and Randall Cobb (ankle) ahead of him on the depth chart. Barring the possibility of the Jets negotiating something along the lines of a late-round pick exchange, Mims will likely find himself a free agent in the near future. In 10 appearances last season, Mims secured just 11 of 25 targets for 186 yards. He hasn't helped his case for sticking around in New York by offering limited contributions on special teams.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: On wrong side of roster bubble?

Mims faces an uphill battle as he tries to make the Jets' 53-man roster, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Mims has yet to score a touchdown since being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Jets, and he will need to impress in camp and preseason just to make the roster in 2023. Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman (abdomen) and Randall Cobb (ankle) all appear to be comfortably ahead of Mims, and undrafted rookie Jason Brownlee is pushing him for the sixth spot on the wide receiver depth chart. Mims' lack of contributions on special teams won't help his case for securing one of the final spots on the team.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: No TDs through three seasons

Mims wasn't targeted in Sunday's 11-6 loss to the Dolphins. He finishes the season with 11 catches for 186 yards on 25 targets. Since being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Mims has yet to score a touchdown in 30 career games. He received opportunities earlier in the season when the Jets dealt with injuries to other wideouts but struggled to do much with his chances while battling drops. It's hard to describe Mims as anything but a bust at this point, and given that he doesn't contribute on special teams, the 25-year-old wide receiver will be a candidate to get cut in training camp this summer barring a noticeable improvement during the Jets' offseason program.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Clears concussion protocol

Mims (concussion) will play Sunday against the Seahawks, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Mims will be back on the field Sunday after he missed the Jets' Week 16 loss to the Jaguars while recovering from the concussion he sustained the week prior versus Detroit. With the Jets in a must-win situation, they'll get some added depth at wide receiver with Mims' return. The 25-year-old has compiled 11 catches for 186 yards over eight contests this season.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Won't play Thursday

Mims (concussion) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Jaguars, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mims had only four days to clear the NFL's concussion protocol after suffering the brain injury in Sunday's 21-19 loss to Detroit. The good news for the Jets is that Corey Davis is back in the lineup, joining Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios to form a talented and varied wideout group. Mims' next chance to play will come Jan. 1 at Seattle.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Not practicing

Mims (concussion) didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Mims had been filling in for Corey Davis, who was a full participant Tuesday after missing the past couple games in concussion protocol. Jeff Smith, who replaced Mims in Sunday's loss to the Lions, also missed Tuesday's practice (with a knee injury). It thus appears Davis could be back in the lineup and handling a full-time role Thursday night against Jacksonville.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Listed as DNP on practice estimate

Mims (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mims was limited to six snaps in Sunday's loss to the Lions and now will need to clear the concussion protocol in short order to have a chance to suit up Thursday night against the Jaguars. Also appearing on Monday's practice estimate were fellow wideouts Jeff Smith (knee, DNP) and Corey Davis (concussion, limited) , which makes the trio's status worth monitoring ahead of Week 16 action.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Three catches after Davis injury

Mims caught three of five targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Bills. Mims was more involved after Corey Davis (head) exited in the first half. Davis took a knee to the head, so his absence may linger through Week 15 against the Lions and beyond, and Mims should see an uptick in playing time for the duration of his fellow wide receiver's absence.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Minimal role as other WRs shine

Mims caught his only target for 11 yards in Sunday's 31-10 win over the Bears. Mims' only catch led to points, as he gained 11 yards on 3rd and 13 to get the Jets in range for a 57-yard Greg Zuerlein field goal just before halftime. New York took a 17-10 lead into the locker room, then put the game away with 14 unanswered points in the second half. Fellow wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore combined for three touchdowns in Mike White's season debut under center, while Mims didn't make much of an impact, suggesting benched quarterback Zach Wilson may not have been the reason for Mims' lack of production to date.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Will be active this weekend

Head coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Mims will remain active for Sunday's game against the Bears even with Corey Davis (knee) set to rejoin the lineup, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. While Corey Davis missed each of New York's previous three games, Mims subsequently moved up the depth chart and recorded five receptions for 123 yards in that span. Now that Davis is in line to return in Week 12, Mims will likely see his opportunities take a hit, but the 25-year-old looks like he won't fall out of the game plan entirely. Expect him to serve as the top backup option on the perimeter behind Davis and Garrett Wilson, while Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios handle slot-receiver duties for the Jets.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Sets up FG with 34-yard grab

Mims caught two of six targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 10-3 loss to New England. The first pass thrown to Mims was a blatant drop, but he redeemed himself with a 34-yard catch down the sideline in the second quarter to set up a field goal for New York's only points of the game. Mims led the team in targets and accounted for nearly half of Zach Wilson's 77 passing yards as the Jets put forth an abhorrent performance on offense. If Corey Davis (knee) is ready to play in Week 12 against the Bears, Mims will likely be relegated to a depth role, as the 2020 second-round pick hasn't done enough in Davis' absence to prove he deserves to keep starting.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: Makes 63-yard catch with Davis out

Mims caught two of three targets for 76 yards in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Patriots. Mims' 63-yard catch and run in the fourth quarter set up Tyler Conklin's second touchdown of the game, but it was too little too late for the Jets, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. Corey Davis' (knee) absence provided more opportunities for Mims in this one, but Mims would be relegated to a reserve role if Davis returns in Week 9 against the Bills.

  • Jets' Denzel Mims: One catch in season debut

Mims caught one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Broncos. Activated for the first time this season with Elijah Moore (personal) sitting at home, Mims delivered a mixed bag. He threw a key block on Breece Hall's (knee) 62-yard touchdown run but was also tagged with an offensive pass interference penalty while trying to block on a screen pass and had a drop on a ball that was admittedly thrown a bit behind him. Mims will likely remain active in Week 8 against the Patriots as a replacement for either Moore or Corey Davis (knee).
