  • Seahawks' Tyrel Dodson: Finds new home in Seattle

The Seahawks agreed to terms on a contract with Dodson on Thursday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports. Dodson will turn 26 years old in June and is coming off the best season of his four-year career last season in Buffalo, finishing with 74 tackles (57 solo), 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 17 regular-season games, including 10 starts. Dodson took on a bigger role following Matt Milano's season-ending leg injury and will now go to Seattle to help offset the departures of Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Posts best NFL season

Dodson played in all 17 games of the regular season for Buffalo, logging 74 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The fourth-year player out of Texas A&M became a full-time starter for the Bills and posted more defensive snaps (519) than in all three of his previous seasons combined. Dodson is only the third-best linebacker on the team, as he sits behind Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard in terms of productivity. Rookie Dorian Williams -- plus whoever the Bills might bring in during the draft or via free agency -- could have an angle to Dodson's starting role in 2024, but he did enough in 2023 that someone is going to have to take the job from him.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Still dealing with shoulder issue

Dodson (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. Dodson sustained a shoulder injury in the Bills' Week 18 win that held him out of the team's wild-card affair, but it seems as if he's got a shot at playing in the divisional round against the Chiefs after beginning the week with two limited practice sessions. The 25-year-old is expected to carry an injury designation into Sunday's outing unless he's able to practice in full Friday.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Inactive versus Steelers

Dodson (shoulder) is inactive for Monday's wild-card round game against the Steelers, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Dodson, who was limited in practice Friday, approached the contest listed as questionable, but he'll sit this one out and target a potential return to action in the divisional round of the playoffs, should the Bills advance. In his absence Monday, look for Baylon Spector to see added linebacker snaps versus Pittsburgh.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Questionable for playoff game

Dodson (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card round game against the Steelers, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Dodson's set to be a limited participant once again in practice Friday. He was unable to return to the regular-season finale against the Dolphins after injuring his shoulder in the first half. If the starting linebacker is unable to play Sunday, Tyler Matakevich could take on a larger role in a game that may feature plenty of running plays with winter weather in the forecast.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Limited at Wednesday's walkthrough

Dodson (shoulder) was a limited participant at Buffalo's walkthrough practice Wednesday. Dodson was forced out of Sunday's win at Miami early due to a shoulder injury, but it doesn't seem like it was too serious. He'll still likely need to practice in full Thursday or Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

Dodson is questionable to return to Sunday's game against Miami due to a shoulder injury. Dodson had three solo tackles, including a sack, to begin Sunday's matchup but went down in the first half. If he can't return against the Dolphins, Tyler Matakevich could see additional playing time.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Loses out on starting role

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Dodson's teammate Terrel Bernard will start in Week 1 at the Jets, Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News reports. Dodson was the early favorite for the starting middle linebacker job, a role left vacant by the free-agent departure of long-time starter Tremaine Edmunds. This development doesn't mean Dodson won't see the field, but unless he's seeing action on defense the majority of the time, he won't have IDP value to begin the season.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: In mix for starting role

Bills general manager Brandon Beane mentioned Dodson by name Tuesday when discussing possible replacements for the vacant starting middle linebacker job following the departure of long-time starter Tremaine Edmunds in free agency, Maddy Glab of the team's official site reports. "I think we got some young guys that have waited their turn and their opportunity," Beane said. "Let's start with Tyrel Dodson who has been here for a while in our system and knows it. I think he filled in admirably when Tremaine missed time. And so, I think he'll have that opportunity." The Bills still have time to bring someone in via free agency or the upcoming draft, but for now it looks like a four-way competition for the job between Dodson, A.J. Klein, Terrel Bernard and Baylon Spector. Dodson -- who posted 32 tackles and a sack last season and served as the primary fill-in in for Edmunds when he was hurt -- and Klein offer more experience than the other two teammates, who were both rookies last season.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Logs career-best outing Sunday

Dodson recorded 11 tackles (seven solo) and one sack during Sunday's 38-3 victory over the Steelers. Dodson started Sunday's contest against Pittsburgh in place of Tremaine Edmunds, who was ruled out for the game with a hamstring injury. The 24-year-old Dodson played 84 percent of Buffalo's defensive snaps and also surpassed his previous career-best tackling performance, which was seven stops in Week 5 of 2020. If Edmunds misses additional time, Dodson would again be the prime beneficiary for extra playing time. The Bills head to Kansas City in Week 6 for what could be another instant classic.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Re-ups with Buffalo

Dodson has re-signed on a one-year contract, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. The 2022 campaign will be Dodson's third with the team. While the Texas A&M product is unlikely to see starter's time at linebacker, he's a versatile backup and an excellent special teams player. The latter will be especially needed with the Bills having quite a bit of turnover to their coaching staff this offseason, including the special teams coaches.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: No practice yet this week

Dodson, who suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's loss to the Chiefs, missed practice for the second straight day Thursday. • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Big contributor in road win

Dodson posted eight tackles and two passes defensed, and played all but one defensive snap in Buffalo's win over Miami in Week 2. The reserve linebacker started in the middle in place of starter Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder) and certainly didn't disappoint. The coaches pointed out how well Dodson played, and he'll certainly be given the same role in Week 3 if Edmunds can't return from his injury. Even when the latter returns to action, Dodson has probably earned himself a few more looks in certain defensive packages.

  • Tyrel Dodson: Waived by Bills

Dodson was waived by the Bills on Monday, The Buffalo News reports. Dodson served a six-game suspension to start the season, which was uplifted last week. The Bills were then given a one-week roster exemption to decide if they were going to keep him on their roster. They have ultimately decided to waive him, but he could be a candidate to land on their practice squad should he end up going unclaimed.
