  • Commanders' Byron Pringle: Catches 14 passes in 2023

Pringle finished the 2023 campaign with 14 catches for 161 yards in 17 games. The 30-year-old drew only 22 targets while mostly operating as a depth wide receiver. Pringle played more snaps on special teams (195) than on offense (183) and now is scheduled for unrestricted free agency in the offseason. Around half of his career receiving production came in one season (2021) with Kansas City.

  • Commanders' Byron Pringle: Empty stat line

Pringle went without a target in the Commanders' 45-15 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. Pringle played a season-high 28 percent of the team's snaps on offense, but he was never targeted on any of Sam Howell's 23 passing attempts. The veteran wideout remains stuck on 13 receptions on 18 targets for 156 yards and no touchdowns on the 2023 campaign, with his next opportunities coming in Week 14 against the Rams.

  • Commanders' Byron Pringle: Catches three passes

Pringle caught each of his three targets for 33 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 31-19 loss to the Giants. The fumble came at the end of a long kick return, spoiling an otherwise solid day for Pringle, who was one of three Commanders WRs to finish in the range of 25-to-35-percent snap share with Curtis Samuel ejected for fighting. The rotation behind the top three suggests Pringle won't have much value even if Samuel, Terry McLaurin and/or Jahan Dotson misses time over the final month and a half of the season.

  • Commanders' Byron Pringle: Records short reception

Pringle played 13 snaps on offense in Sunday's 35-33 win over Denver, reeling in his lone target for a four-yard gain. After being limited exclusively to a special-teams role in the Commanders' Week 1 win over the Cardinals, Pringle was able to carve out a small depth role at receiver. He still ranked well behind Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel and Dyami Brown and is unlikely to carve out a meaningful passing-game role unless the Commanders lose multiple receivers to injury.

  • Commanders' Byron Pringle: Still on roster

Pringle has a spot on Washington's initial 53-man roster, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. The Commanders are carrying seven wide receivers, including undrafted rookie Mitchell Tinsley. That may not last, but it's not a total shock given that No. 1 receiver Terry McLaurin (toe) is uncertain for Week 1 against the Cardinals. Pringle likely would be only fourth or fifth on the depth chart even if McLaurin were to miss the game.

  • Commanders' Byron Pringle: Headed to Landover

Pringle agreed to a contract with the Commanders on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After Pringle's disappointing year in Chicago (10-135-2) in 2022, he reunites with his old offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, in Washington. When last playing under Bieniemy in Kansas City back in 2021, Pringle tallied 42 catches for 568 yards and five touchdowns. Expect the veteran wideout to compete for the fourth wide receiver position on the Commanders behind Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel ahead of the coming season.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Disappoints in 2022

Pringle caught one pass for five yards in the Bears' 29-13 loss to the Vikings in Week 18, and ended the season with 10 receptions, 135 yards and two touchdowns over 11 games played. Injuries limited Pringle to 11 games, and he never caught more than two passes or gained 40 yards in a game. During the preseason, he missed significant time due to injury, and he certainly missed out on building chemistry with Justin Fields. It also didn't help that Pringle was part of a low-volume passing attack that frequently rotated its wide receivers. The only year of his four-year career in which he surpassed 170 yards was when he caught 42 passes for 568 yards and two touchdowns in 2021 with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. He's now an unrestricted free agent.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Leads team in targets

Pringle failed to catch any of his four targets in the Bears' 41-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Pringle had more than two targets for the first time in the nine games he's played this season, though this was the first time in three games he hasn't recorded at least 34 yards. He'll be considered a low-upside fantasy option in Week 18 against the Vikings.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Highest yardage total of season

Pringle caught both of his targets for 34 yards in the Bears' 35-13 loss to the Bills on Sunday. Pringle has five catches for 63 yards over his last five games, and he hasn't been targeted more than twice in any game this season. His lack of usage will make him a risky fantasy option in Week 17 against the Lions.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Snags late TD in loss

Pringle caught both of his targets for 39 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Eagles. Pringle's 35-yard touchdown with 2:43 left in the fourth quarter accounted for the vast majority of his production. He has two touchdowns this season and has yet to catch more than two passes in a game. Pringle will likely continue to see limited volume in Chicago's run-heavy offense against the Bills in Week 16.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: First action since Week 3

Pringle caught one pass for 12 yards in the Bears' 31-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Pringle has played in three games this season, but he's yet to have more than one catch in a game. Unless his role increases, he'll remain a risky fantasy option.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Set to rejoin roster

Pringle (calf) was activated off injured reserve Saturday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Pringle hasn't played since Week 3 and rejoins a resurgent Bears offense led by the dual-threat capabilities of quarterback Justin Fields. Pringle's return could cut into the snaps of Equanimeous St. Brown, who had played at least 60 percent of the offensive snaps in all but two of the last five weeks.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Cleared for practice

The Bears designated Pringle (calf) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. The transaction opens up a 21-day window for the Bears to evaluate Pringle in practice, and he's eligible to rejoin the 53-man roster at any point during that three-week span. The calf injury has sidelined Pringle since Week 3, but once healthy, Pringle should take on a depth role within the Bears' receiving corps.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Goes to IR with calf injury

Pringle (calf) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports. After suffering a calf injury in the first half of Sunday's win over the Texans, Pringle will now have to miss the Bears' next four games and won't be eligible to play until Oct. 30 against the Cowboys. The five-year veteran has tallied just two receptions for 33 yards on three targets this season, so his absence won't open up much additional volume in what's already been the NFL's worst passing game through the first three weeks.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Exits Sunday's game

Pringle was forced out of Sunday's contest against the Texans with a calf injury. Pringle is iffy to return to Sunday's game against Houston after he was seen walking to the locker room with an apparent calf injury. Before his departure, the speedy receiver caught one pass for 11 yards. Expect Darnell Mooney, Equanimeous St. Brown and Dante Pettis to take on an expanded role for the remainder of Sunday's contest against the Texans if Pringle isn't able to return.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: One grab in opener

Pringle caught one pass for 22 yards in the Bears' 19-10 win over the 49ers on Sunday. There wasn't much passing going on in a game played in terrible field conditions with heavy rain coming down at various points. Pringle's other target was on a deep pass in the end zone, but the ball was overthrown. We'll get a better feel for his role if the Week 2 game at Green Bay is played in better conditions.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Cleared for Week 1

Pringle (groin) isn't listed on the Bears' initial injury report for Sunday's game against the 49ers. Pringle moved past his preseason groin injury and now faces a tough defense to start the season, though San Francisco's strength lies up front rather than in the secondary. The Bears list Equanimeous St. Brown ahead of Pringle as a starter on their first depth chart of the regular season, but the slotting looks fluid behind clear No. 1 receiver Darnell Mooney.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Unlikely to suit up Saturday

Pringle (quadriceps) missed Thursday's practice and may not play Saturday against the Browns, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports. Pringle suffered a quadriceps injury Aug. 6 and has yet to return to practice, making it unlikely he plays in the preseason finale. If he sits, he'll have two weeks to heal up to have a chance to play in Week 1.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: Remains sidelined

Pringle (quadriceps) didn't practice Wednesday, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Pringle has been dealing with the injury for just over two weeks, and his availability for Saturday's preseason finale versus the Browns is still up in the air. The 28-year-old's continued absence from practice could hurt his case for earning a prominent role in the Bears' receiving corps to begin the season.

  • Bears' Byron Pringle: May miss preseason finale

Pringle (quadriceps) may not play Saturday against the Browns, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports. It's unclear as to whether Pringle has recovered from his quadriceps injury, but unless the coaching staff decides he needs reps with the backups, the Bears' coaching staff is expected to sit their first-string players to avoid injuries in the team's final preseason contest. Assuming that's the case, and he's healthy to start the regular season, he'll make his Chicago debut Week 1 against the 49ers.
