  • 49ers' Clelin Ferrell: Lands on IR

The 49ers placed Ferrell (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Ferrell sustained a knee injury in the 49ers' regular-season finale against the Rams. Despite San Francisco having a bye week as the top seed in the NFC, he was unable to practice in the week leading up to the team's game Saturday against the Packers. Ferrell finishes the season with 28 tackles (15 solo), including 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 17 games. In his absence, Alex Barrett and Randy Gregory should see increased opportunities as depth edge rushers behind starters Nick Bosa and Chase Young.

  • 49ers' Clelin Ferrell: Won't play in divisional round

Ferrell (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's playoff matchup versus the Packers, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Ferrell is expcted to miss multiple weeks while recovering from a knee injury suffered during the Week 18 contest versus the Rams, one that led to him being carted off the field. After failing to practice Tuesday through Thursday, it's no surprise that the 26-year-old will now miss his first game of the 2023 campaign. Ferrell logged 28 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, while playing as a rotational defensive end this season. In his absence Saturday, Randy Gregory and/or Robert Beal should see increased playing time behind starting defensive ends Nick Bosa and Chase Young.

  • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: Ruled out for Saturday's game

Coach Jon Gruden confirmed Thursday that Ferrell (shoulder) has been ruled out for Las Vegas' Week 16 matchup against the Dolphins, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports. Ferrell was unable to suit up last Thursday night against the Chargers either, having proven unable to rehabilitate on a short week after sustaining his shoulder injury Dec. 13 against the Colts. The 2019 No. 4 overall draft choice has just two sacks on the season, both coming Week 13 against the Jets. Besides the two recent sacks, Ferrell also showed signs of progress by generating eight QB hits over his four preceding games to the injury.

  • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: Huge performance against Jets

Ferrell recorded seven tackles (four solo), two strip-sacks and a pass breakup in Sunday's 28-24 win over the Jets. The Raiders underperformed in a game where they were heavily favored. However, Ferrell was a bright spot. After failing to post a sack through his first nine games of the year, Ferrell strip-sacked Sam Darnold twice, and the Raiders recovered each loose ball. It was a monster performance for the 2019 first-round pick, and he finished with a season-high 84 percent snap share. He'll look to build on that effort against the Colts in Week 14.

  • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: Pulled off COVID list

Ferrell was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports. • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: Can't be stopped by Chargers

Ferrell recorded eight tackles (five solo) and 2.5 sacks in Thursday's 26-24 win over the Chargers. The fourth-overall pick in April's draft took a while to get revved up this season with just 15 tackles and a sack over his first seven games. The Chargers had no answer for Ferrell in this outing, however, as he tormented Rivers to record the best performance of his career. To be fair, Sam Tevi (knee) was inactive and Russell Okung (groin) left on the Chargers' first offensive drive, leaving Los Angeles with backups at both tackle positions. Still, it was impressive work by the rookie, and the Raiders hope he can carry the confidence into a Week 11 matchup against the Bengals' weak offensive front.

  • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: Full-go Wednesday

Ferrell (concussion) was a full participant for Wednesday's practice, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Ferrell still resides in the league's mandated concussion protocol, but the fact that he's back to full practice suggests he's nearing full clearance. The 2019 first-round pick will need to get the full clearance from an independent neurologist in order to play Sunday, but if he can't go, look for Josh Mauro and Maxx Crosby to see an increase in snaps.

  • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: No practice Thursday

Ferrell (concussion) is not practicing Thursday. Ferrell remains in the league's protocol for head injuries, and he has yet to practice this week. • Raiders' Clelin Ferrell: Surprise fourth overall selection

The Raiders selected Ferrell in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, fourth overall. This is a rather surprising selection. Ferrell (6-foot-4, 264 pounds) was a very productive player on a strong Clemson defensive line, posting 27 sacks and 50 tackles for loss in his 44 career games, but his athletic tools are more modest and he projects as more of a steady producer than a truly standout one. As much as he should be a fine player for the Raiders, it will be difficult to overlook the fact that they passed on several other defenders with seeming star potential like defensive linemen Ed Oliver and Josh Allen, or linebacker Devin White. Dwayne Haskins would have been a fine quarterback selection as well. While Ferrell isn't likely to turn into the star the Raiders apparently envision him as, he could prove an immediate IDP factor so long as he earns a role entailing 700 or more snaps this year.
