  • Steelers' Kwon Alexander: Season over following torn Achilles

Alexander sustained a season-ending Achilles injury in Sunday's 23-19 win over the Packers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Steelers lost Cole Holcomb (knee) for the season in Week 9 and will now be without Alexander after the latter tore his Achilles in the first quarter of Sunday's game. Given the timing of the injury, it's likely that Alexander will miss the beginning of the 2024 season. He finishes his 2023 season with 41 tackles (32 solo), including one sack, one interception and a forced fumble in eight games.

Alexander recorded two tackles and an interception in Thursday's 20-16 win over the Titans. • Steelers' Kwon Alexander: Inks deal

  • Steelers' Kwon Alexander: Agrees to terms with Steelers

Alexander agreed to terms on a contract with Pittsburgh on Saturday pending the results of a physical, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Barring any unforeseen results from this physical, Alexander should be set to vie for a significant role with Pittsburgh, which also added fellow inside linebackers Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts via free agency this offseason. The 28-year-old Alexander has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, playing just 38 regular-season games from 2018 to 2021. However, he did play all 17 regular-season games for the Jets in 2022, tallying 69 tackles -- the most since his 2017 season with Tampa Bay. The 227-pound linebacker is regarded as one of the league's most athletic off-ball linebackers when healthy, showcasing unique skills in space. Alexander should be a natural fit in the Steelers' veteran-laden defensive unit.

The video is impressive considering Alexander is just shy of four months removed from tearing his Achilles. The former Saints middle linebacker is currently an unrestricted free agent, but judging by Saturday's video it's entirely possible the 26-year-old could be available for a respective team's training camp should he get signed.

  • 49ers' Kwon Alexander: May have high-ankle sprain

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that there is a possibility Alexander has suffered a high-ankle sprain, Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee reports. A subsequent report by Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area revealed that more specific information is expected to arrive on the matter later this week, but for now, the 49er faithful is left wondering whether the defense has suffered yet another injury setback. Alexander has averaged six tackles per game, with three tackles for loss and one forced fumble through the first five weeks of 2020. He would join defensive stalwarts Nick Bosa (knee-ACL), Richard Sherman (calf), K'Waun Williams (knee-ACL) and Dee Ford (neck) on the inactive list if forced to miss any time because of the injury.
