  • Giants' Darren Waller: Should decide on retirement soon

Waller said Wednesday that he's still undecided on retirement but will make a decision "pretty soon," Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. While he doesn't expect to decide before the start of the 2024 league year March 11, the 31-year-old tight end said he doesn't want it become "this drawn-out thing" and will give the Giants time to adjust if they end up needing to replace him. If he waits too long the team might take the decision out of his hands, as Waller doesn't have any guarantees remaining on his contract and is scheduled for at least $12 million in compensation each of the next three seasons. The Giants can free up $11.625 million in cap space by declaring Waller as a post-June 1 release, though multiple reports have suggested they'd rather have him back. The tight end was on pace to catch 85 passes for 923 yards through seven games in 2023 before a Week 8 hamstring injury derailed his season and led to a third straight year with at least five missed games. He had 2,341 yards and 12 TDs in 32 games between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, compared to 1,605 yards and six TDs in 32 games over the past three years combined.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Not certain to return after all

Waller still hasn't decided whether he will return to the Giants for the 2024 season or retire, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports. Early Friday, news emerged that Waller had contemplated retirement during the offseason but ultimately decided to return. However, the veteran tight end subsequently texted the Post to explain that, despite those reports, he is undecided about retirement. New York gave up a third-round draft pick to acquire Waller from the Raiders in March of 2023, and it's safe to assume that the organization was expecting to get more than one season out of him when making that deal. If Waller does decide to retire, it would be a significant blow to the Giants' air attack, as he ranked second on the team with 52 catches and 552 receiving yards last season despite playing in only 12 games.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Tallies 45 yards in season finale

Waller brought in five of six targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 27-10 win over Philadelphia. Waller played just over half of New York's offensive snaps in the contest and finished tied for the team lead in receptions. That led to the fourth-highest yardage mark among Giants pass catchers on an unusually productive day for the team through the air. Waller missed five games in the middle of the campaign due to a hamstring injury, but he was reasonably productive when healthy despite New York's offensive struggles, and he finished the season with 52 catches (on 74 targets) for 552 yards and a touchdown over 12 contests. Waller is under contract through 2026 and should return next season as the Giants' primary tight end and one of the team's biggest threats in the passing game.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Sleeper TEs

Waller had a solid game in Week 17 against the Rams with five catches for 51 yards on six targets, and he could post a similar stat line in Week 18 against the Eagles. Four tight ends have scored at least 10.8 PPR points against Philadelphia in the past seven games, and Tyrod Taylor should lean on Waller in this matchup at home.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Five catches in Week 17

Waller caught five of six targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 26-25 loss to the Rams. Waller posted his highest yardage total since Week 7, as the veteran tight end finally seems to be fully recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out for five games. He has just one touchdown among his 47 catches for 507 yards on 68 targets as a member of the Giants, but Waller will look to finish his season on a high note in Week 18 against the Eagles.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Upgrades to full practice

Waller (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Like several other of his Giants teammates, Waller was estimated as a limited participant Wednesday for the team's walk-through session, but he was back on the field as a full participant a day later to erase any concern about his availability for Sunday's game against the Rams. Since returning from a stint on injured reserve in Week 15, Waller has been held to six catches for 72 yards and no touchdowns on 11 targets, but his fantasy ceiling could be higher in Week 17 with a more proven signal-caller in Tyrod Taylor set to replace slumping undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito as the Giants' starting quarterback.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

Last week was ugly for Waller -- he couldn't connect with Tommy DeVito, then Tyrod Taylor missed him on what might have been a long touchdown grab, then didn't put any numbers up until the Giants' final drive. And yet, there are positives! His route rate jumped from 48% in his first game back to 76% last week, and he continued to get attention from Taylor, who's starting for the Giants this week. On the season, no one has a higher target share from Taylor than Waller (25% of his throws). That's huge, but not as big as this: The Rams have allowed at least 13 PPR (9.5 in half-PPR) to tight ends in four of their past five games. Waller has a money matchup with the quarterback who can locate him, and he still has room to add to his route participation. I'm ready to chance it with Waller over Jake Ferguson, Dallas Goedert, Gerald Everett and Dalton Kincaid.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: TEs to Start

Waller has a great matchup in Week 17 against the Rams, who are No. 6 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends. I like Waller with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, and hopefully he can help Waller have a breakout game. In his past two games since coming back from his five-game absence with a hamstring injury, Waller only has six catches for 72 yards and no touchdowns on 11 targets, but this should be a quality outing. Four tight ends in the past five games have scored at least 13 PPR points against the Rams.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Tending to knee issue

Waller was a limited participant at Wednesday's walkthrough due to a knee injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. In two appearances since missing five games due to a right hamstring injury, Waller has hauled in six of 11 targets for 72 yards, including a catch of 20-plus yards on both occasions. He appeared to get banged up on his 20-yard snag with 26 seconds remaining during the Giants' 33-25 loss Monday at Philadelphia, but no health concern emerged until the first practice report of Week 17 prep. Waller will have two more chances to get back to full practice participation before the team potentially gives him a designation ahead of Sunday's contest against the Rams.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Week 17 Waiver Priority List

Waller hasn't done much in his two games back from a five-game absence with a hamstring injury, with six catches for 72 yards and no touchdowns on 11 targets. But I still like him as a low-end starter in Week 17 against the Rams, who are No. 6 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends. Waller would likely benefit if Tyrod Taylor starts for the Giants, and this should be Waller's best game since returning to action in Week 15.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Two catches late in loss

Waller recorded two receptions (on five targets) for 32 yards in Monday's 33-25 loss to the Eagles. Waller made minimal impact for much of the game and failed to record a catch on each of his first three targets. He got on the stat sheet on the Giants' final possession with receptions of 12 and 20 yards, the latter of which set up a potential game-tying touchdown on the final play of the game. Waller has only 72 yards combined in two games since returning from a hamstring injury, though he has managed 11 targets in that span.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Sleeper TEs

Waller had his shake the rust off game in Week 15 at New Orleans, which was his first game back following a five-game absence with a hamstring injury. He did OK with four catches for 40 yards on six targets, but he's capable of more, especially in a favorable matchup with the Eagles in Week 16. Philadelphia has allowed five tight ends to score at least 10.8 PPR points in the past seven games, and Waller should see a healthy amount of targets with the Giants likely chasing points. He's worth using as a No. 1 Fantasy tight end in all leagues.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

Waller's return from a five-game absence with a hamstring injury in Week 15 at New Orleans was OK with four catches for 40 yards on six targets. I'm hopeful for better production in Week 16 at Philadelphia, and Waller is worth using as a low-end No. 1 tight end in all leagues. He will hopefully play more than 42 percent of the snaps now that he's healthy, and Tommy DeVito should lean on Waller against the Eagles, especially since the Giants will likely be chasing points on the road.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Gains 40 yards in return

Waller (hamstring) caught four of six targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Saints. Waller returned from a five-game stint on injured reserve and finished as the Giants' second-leading receiver against the Saints. The receiving tight end did not appear to be limited in terms of playing time or ability in the one-sided loss. This was also the first time we saw him receiving passes from undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito. Waller's final line was right around the averages (4.5 receptions and 48.0 yards per game) we saw when Daniel Jones was getting him the ball earlier this year. More of the same can be expected when the Giants face the Eagles on Monday in Week 16.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Week 16 Early Waiver Targets (Add/Drop)

Waller didn't have a huge game for the Giants in his return from IR, as he caught four of six passes for 40 yards and was fourth on the team in routes run, but that's actually not so bad for coming back from such a lengthy absence. I don't think Waller is likely to be a league-winner over the next few weeks, but if you're in one of the 41% of CBS Fantasy leagues where Waller is available and you don't have a must-start TE, you should strongly consider adding Waller. He's probably the only guy with difference-making potential available at the position right now, even if he isn't a sure thing at this point.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Active against Saints

Waller (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Saints, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Waller was activated from injured reserve Saturday and will now take the field for the first time since Week 8. It's unclear whether he'll be on a snap count, though reports from practice earlier this week suggest he was running a full route tree. Assuming Waller is ready to go at full capacity, he should play a significant role in the Giants' passing attack, as he managed at least seven targets in five of eight contests prior to suffering the hamstring injury.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Return expected

Waller (hamstring), who is officially listed as questionable, is expected to play Sunday against the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Waller was activated from injured reserve Saturday, so the expectation is that he will play for the first time since Week 8. Nevertheless, his status won't become official until shortly before the Giants kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET. If he does suit up, Waller will bolster a pass-catching corps that is currently led by Darius Slayton and Wan'Dale Robinson.

  • Giants' Darren Waller: Status in question for Sunday

Waller (hamstring) is listed a questionable for Sunday's game at New Orleans, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. After missing the Giants' last five contests due to a right hamstring injury, Waller was designated for return from injured reserve Thursday and immediately logged a limited practice. At Friday's session, he appeared to be preparing as if he'll be able to play Week 15, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, and Waller even told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com that he handled the entire route tree this week. While Waller expects to play this weekend, the Giants will need to activate him from IR by Saturday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline in order to do so.
